If Western countries keep nukes as a deterrent for the last couple of decades, don't they get old and dusty and useless?

Even if the purpose of nukes is for them to sit in dusty silos and never be used, lol, like America, France, Russia, etc. India etc.
If the nukes are never to be used, don't they become expensive to maintain or keep dust free or even to potentially replace someday? The nukes? I've just always wondered that politically and socially.

everyone knows they dust them off, this was in an episode of g. i. joe. also not a secret they switch the fuel every couple months.

about expense it is considered an invesment to deter damage to a city. u. s. DID dismantle around half of the nuclear warheads and missiles so less expense.

engineers check everything so they are "really ready" those that remain. also russia dsmantled thousands but we see how "well" they preserve their military stuff!

Missile systems and their warheads get serviced regularly and also have a product life cycle the same as any system.

This is true for conventional and nuclear weapons and their launch platforms.

I grew up during 'cold war' thinking. Later, the USSR broke down and I saw the rubbish that we had been made afraid of - with my own eyes (soviet military installations in what had been left in the ''GDR''.

''We'' had been fooled for decades... and by our own guys.

Deterrent = yes. But one that keeps us from asking inconvenient questions.

Anyhow: military people live in their own imaginary world. And I'd not be surprised if they have their toys polished up each other day.
