I never liked Trump, and I just think he says what he thinks enough people want to hear. Now we’ve water down the language on abortion in the RNC platform which honestly the average voter isn’t going to know anything about anyway so it’s kind of pointless. But it says something. We removed the part about marriage being between a man and a woman. And the thing that really gets me is foreign policy. Trump is kind of all over the map, but it gives you an idea based on who we picked for VP. He called the Warren disaster, which is like a Democrat talking point. Trump said similar stuff like that before. And he thinks that we should just let Russia have part of Ukraine. Can anyone really imagine Ronald Reagan having a position like that? He would’ve done more than Biden. I really don’t like these changes that have happened.

That's kind of funny; Trump's changes are notably LESS radical than Reagan's were. It's what comes of not being a walking abomination against the country's ideals (and not committing treason while in office; that helps, too).

Trump, meanwhile, is simply not very conservative; his moderateness is a big part of the root of his widespread appeal. Most people realize that gay marriage isn't a threat to anything, and that it's far better to reach out to the people who want to expand the idea of family, lest they fall into the ideological clutches of those who seek to destroy it. And he wants the states to be able to make their own abortion laws, like the Constitution mandates.

As to the war in Iraq: it flattened the country, killed a hundred thousand innocent people, and paved the way for the rise of ISIS, destabilizing the entire region. And the given justification for the war, that Saddam had chemical weapons, proved to be entirely false. It didn't even keep OPEC from accepting non-dollar currencies to price oil, which was the REAL justification. In what way was it NOT a disaster?

I predicted years ago that Trump’s legacy will be the destruction of the Republican Party. He doesn’t care what kook or moron someone (Lake, Boebert, Jordan, MTG, Gaetz…) is, as long as he can get their support and they are useful to him.
The only chance for the GOP is if their voters get Democrats the power in the Senate, the House and the White House, so Trump and his MAGA minions start riding off into the sunset.

I was a Republican until they let Trump hijack the party. He only cares about himself and loyalty to him is all that matters. There is often no plan for anything except trying to say "Democrats are worse". Trump changes his mind constantly, so that's nothing new. It's the result of having no self-control, so he blurts something out then someone has to tell him that's not a conservative view and then he tries to change it. He's taken pandering to everyone for votes to a new level by having many opinions. I'll vote Libertarian until the party is tired of Trump losing everything.

To be fair, the part of Ukraine he thinks Russia ought to have is a part populated by a majority of ethnically Russian people.

The days of Ronald Regan have long since passed. It doesn't make sense for the party to not change as well.

The people in those provinces actually voted to join Russia. And I can't speak to the Regan idolization. I personally think it's kind of silly to idolize him at this point, but people do a lot of things I don't understand.
