Latest news is that there were almost no Secret Service agents at the event where Trump was almost killed. They replaced most Secret Service with untrained DHS (Homeland Security). The usual K-9 patrols for explosives, metal detectors were not present. The usual guarding of the stage wasn't done. Basically everything you can think of that should have been done was not done.

No, Trump hand picked his secret service detail based on loyalty not competence. At one rally when he was informed there were armed people in the crowd being kept out with magnetic metal detectors he famously said "theyre not here to hurt me, take the f'ing as away." He likely bought in to the idea that everyone on the right worships him and so legitimately didn't see it coming.

All presidents do some hand picking along the way, that is not unusual at all. But that is just for the core team not all members. As far as his response one time when people had guns at a rally, that's obviously not relevant since 1.) we see nobody else with guns at the rally other than the shooter, 2.) Trust me, if everybody at his rally was carrying a gun they would take the shooter out themselves. But maybe that is what will happen in the future.

I think that while the secret service was doing a pre event sweep of the grounds they found the kid's rifle. It was left exactly where he stashed it. The democrat Secret Service director allowed the shooter to retrieve his weapon and get in position to kill President Trump. I heard today that the shooter actually had his own drone that he used to do reconnaissance of the fair grounds. Where were the Secret Service drones?
