Ignorance is the main stream of America. What should I do?

I am living in Canada but people seem to be the same as america. It’s like he ignorance is bliss kind of thing? I mean people are ignorant. I guess it’s a mainstream. However I would assume not everyone living here like that? I mean I hope so. So, I wonder how to be smart than ignorant people? What should I do? What kind of people should I meet and what kind of people should I avoid? Any tips? Much appreciated

People are "programmed" by mainstream news and entertainment. They assume that something is true if there seems to be a consensus, but don't realize that the consensus is deliberately manufactured to present one narrative and narrow the range of acceptable thinking. They don't want you to think. They want to tell you what to think.

Years ago, I started seeing articles on Facebook about things that I would never have otherwise run across. I began 'friending" the brightest and most informed people around the world that could find. It opened my eyes.
But Facebook began blocking and censoring information that didn't fit its ideology and most people eventually dropped off to go to other platforms. Fortunately, I'm still in touch with some of them. Now Facebook is a ghost town.

What I learned is to be a critical thinker. I can spot bias and discern well documented facts. I also started reading books instead of solely relying on articles and podcasts, although some on-line journalists and podcasters are quite informative.

Once my mind was open and I learned to think critically, and became more informed about reality, I began meeting similar people in person. And they introduced me to more people.

The main thing is to keep an open mind and not be deterred from asking questions, even if doing so gets you painted as a "conspiracy theorist". Think of conspiracy theorists as fact checkers. They spot flaws and inconsistencies and seek to find answers.

The majority is easily bamboozled.

From what i remember Canada was not always like this and neither was America. Everything in America has been dumbed down. In America the teachers union is a major donor for the democrats. As a result they have a major voice in education. They push their own agenda and do not care about American students. They make decisions that effect students from coast to coast. In 2020 it was apparent that it was the teachers union that dictated policy to the government. Things just went downhill much faster because of Covid. In the state where I live there is a standardized test that is given as a condition of graduation. The students had a difficult time passing the test because the public schools are so bad. Instead of doing something to improv ethe schools they get rid of the test.

Things will not change until we have a change in leadership.
