The reality is that the USA is roughly the same size as Europe - our states are not a lot different than European countries - and we are separated from the rest of the world by 2 huge oceans. Between that and terrible government schools, most Americans know very little about the rest of the world. Most Americans have never traveled outside of North America.
Certainly there ARE Americans who travel outside the US - and that percentage has been growing over the past couple of decades - and there are others who are just better educated about the world, but these are more the exception than the rule.
The average American is very American-centric - they're not watching random videos from South Africa or anywhere else unless there is a sporting event, a music festival, or a war there to drive viewership. Half of Americans couldn't point to Russia or Ukraine on a map, even if they have had the Ukrainian flag in their profile for the last two years. But they know the Housewives of Beverly Hills and Olivia Rodrigo, because that's what's important. Lol.
And South Africa is a Melting pot of different cultures from all over the world. Similar to America and The UK
Indeed.
I'm far from being an expert about Africa - and Africa is a HUGE place with many different countries and cultures, not to mention governments and GDPs - but I'm well aware that many African countries have modern cities and access to modern technology. Some of those countries ALSO have areas of jungle or plains that are still in a very natural state, but right here in California, there is plenty of nearly untouched natural environment if you go an hour or two outside of the major metro areas. Having cities doesn't mean you don't have natural areas, and the reverse is also true.
But many Americans' only knowledge of Africa comes from watching The Lion King, and that's hardly going to give them much relevant information on modern Africa.
