When a person gets married, they have the choice of keeping their surname or changing it to their spouse's surname. They can also hyphenate it.

A woman with a career, who is well-know, will often keep her own surname.

My wife kept her surname, different from mine. That's not a problem, it's the second marriage for both of us, and she is well-known with her surname. It is interesting sometimes when a worker calls me Mr <hername> thiugh.

Does she have kids? Her last name is Harris is because she is not fully committed to her marraige & husband like a lot of modern women. 80% of divorces are instigated by women.

Usually when a woman has her college degree's she keeps her maiden name in her professional life.
I know this because I worked for two microbiologists and both used their maiden names in their professional life and on their diploma's as well.

Name recognition is too important in politics so if someone gets married while serving some elected position it can be a career ender to change their name.

Loads of people go by their unmarried surname. How come she’s referred to as Kamala and not Harris, you had Hilary and Clinton, Trump?
