Didn't you just answer the question?
Getting past a person's flaws requires a thoughtful understanding of their situation.
Where I live, there are a lot of drugged out, homeless people. I guarantee none of them sat down one day and thought "I want to feel sick. I want to be dependent on a drug that will kill me. oh, and yeah, I'd rather live under a bridge."
Many of these people served our country honorably in the military. They're damaged by the horrors they witnessed. They're neglected by our government. They're haunted by the acts they were required to commit. They can't get the same high quality care most of us enjoy, so they self-medicate. It isn't a question of them being weak. It's a question of them being so damaged that they can't climb out of the hole we put them in.
It takes intelligence to see past that ugly superficial and realize that these broken people deserve our care and respect.

1 yOne person's stupid is another persons' clever. Stupidity therefore can be seen in many ways, either by action or by lack of reason.
What do I mean? I for example like to play the fool. I'm happy making fun of myself for other people's enjoyment. Some may see that as stupid behaviour, some may go as far to say I WAS stupid, yet I mean no disrespect to others!
I on the other hand like to watch how people interact with other people. For me, 'stupid' isn't always what people say, but defined by what they do, or how they live their lives.
That said, there are some perceived stereotypes people throw out into the wild, such as a lack of one's Intelligence quota being linked to how much respect they afford to others! I however do not subscribe to that notion!

As addition the less intelligent people are the more impulsive when they don't get the content of a discussion.

1 yOne of the reasons why people can get angry is when they are no longer able to counter the information being used to reinforce or disapprove a point in an argument or discussion.
Stupid people = Dumb people fall into this trap faster simply because they do not possess enough knowledge, intelligence, to participate in a serious conversation.
I revel in it if I shut someone down with facts and that person becomes hostile and personal towards me; I know I have won the argument then. I politely thank them for their time, wish them all the best and take my leave.11 Reply- 1 y

Because that's how they were brought up so they think that's normal and instead of thinking before they say something or doing something they just do it or not even wondering if they were right in or wrong for doing what they did.. . . Where when you hear something or you do something and you read that person's eyes or their expression or their body language you wonder about it you think about it to find out if you might have done something wrong or they don't because they think it's just normal that's who they are and their selfish they're only thinking of themselves it's really kind of sad
10 Reply6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Stupidity and disrespect share a common cause. Narcissism. A hyper-focus on one's own needs and wants is Narcissism and it tends to result in a lot of internal dialog, free of anchors to reality. The only real reckoning is with access to food but civilization more or less takes care of that for everyone. This mental isolation results in a whole alternate reality with its own facts and structures for validation. How this leads to stupidity is obvious but how it leads to disrespect is slightly more complicated: those structures of validation are not confirmed by others so the narcissist will naturally think it's other people who are stupid and so not deserving of respect.

Anonymous(30-35)1 yI wouldn't say stupid maybe perhaps they are on the spectrum and their parents neglected them to get tested by a specialist. Sadly people do not take mental health seriously if they did we wouldn't had this issue.

Opinion Owner1 yMaybe because you had parents who were responsible abd knew better to get you tested when you were a child thankfully they caught your disability on time. That's to therapy it's no wonder you managed to function like a normal human being.
