The state is not based on theft but on the economies of scale. It is like how we make kids go to school even though they dont want to because we know they will understand how it benefits them when they are older. Similarly, we know people will understand how taxes benefit them when they are older.

Or at least that used to be the case. Now the rich have made sure pretty much all tax money goes to them. And then use that absence of our tangible benefits to being taxed as an excuse to get us to vote for the politicians who will cut the rich's taxes and increase ours, by saying things like "the state is based on theft."

Historically the state itself was original build around people agreeing to work together to control a area of space for their common protection and advantage.

This exist in even ancestry species known as troops. More complex and larger human organizations existed for much the same reasons.
However as they became too large for all the individuals thereof to know what was going on, the schemes and abusive self-serving proposes of the leaders became easier to get away with.

This of course is the problem with collectivism taken very far on a larger scale, it is simply not possible to control the leaders or hold them accountable. Nor is it possible for them to lead adequately over soo much complexity at such a distance.
But a certant segment of the population is drawn towards this idea regardless as a left over from a time when it was more manageable.
