What’s are your thoughts about eye for an eye punishments?

Eye for an eye punishments means the criminal perpetrator will get the same type of treatment they inflicted among there victim as punishment.

For example if one person beats another person with a baseball bat unprovoked the court will order the person who committed the assault to get beaten with a baseball bat as well as punishment.

It seems like some countries still do this. This happened in Iran not long ago. A woman was allowed by the courts to pour acid onto the man who threw acid at her because she refuse his proposal.

Sounds bad... if it is a crime then court can't do the same crime action.

In quran a lady knocked out a tooth so muhamed ordered her tooth pulled but if a crime he did same crime.

If its meaning is "fit the crime" then that is precisely justice: a rapist longer prison than libel or offensive words. In contrast to judges now. I dunno why judges now are not fitting the crime like the idea eye for eye.

I support it depending on the person. Some people will really feel punished when you return the favor. Other people will feel punished when you show kindness. Different person, different punishment.

I can understand the sentiment, the desire to hurt the people who hurt you, but pain itself is not a good enough teacher. It’s one thing to give oneself the satisfaction of personal justice, it’s another to help them learn. Rarely do people inflict damage out of malice, it’s usually out of ignorance. If they learn, you help guarantee that what happened to you doesn’t happen to anyone else, but teaching them is not your responsibility.

Someone who rapes and kills a baby should get death! A person who buries some girl alive should get the same, so he can share in the terror that she felt. No more Mr. Nice Guy in this kind of instance. There are many who were let out of prison for murder and they then murder again. I think an eye for an eye is a good policy in a majority of the cases. Even God had the Israelites kill truly evil people so that they would not spawn more evil descendants. Some people can not be redeemed as they will never change.

And how do you tell the difference between a murderer who will kill again and feigns remorse, and someone who killed and feels genuine remorse? You can’t know without reading their minds

You can sometimes see it in court, where they snicker at the loved ones of the deceased or show no remorse at all. You see people do that on YouTube all the time. And I don't care how much remorse they show, if they killed someone in a heinous way and with cruelty, then they should pay for it. If someone killed one of your family members - a daughter or son - in such a manor of using torture, rape, and total cruelty, such as cutting off body parts, I'm hoping you would be the first one clamoring for justice and the death sentence.

You’re not the judge in those cases. You don’t get to decide who’s shedding crocodile tears and who isn’t. They deserve a chance to get better if they express remorse, it’s not fullproof against the truly evil but you assume the truly evil happens much more often than it actually does. I do agree with the sentiment of punishing the evil, but a majority of cases are not evil

Well they will not be shown mercy by God. So helping them meet up with him sooner, rather than later, may save someone else's life down the line. I'm interested in your view is if someone IS shown mercy for killing his neighbor's wife, and then turns around and kills the rest of the family too when he gets out of prison in 20 years when he could have been put to death. Are you going to say justice is too lax these days? It's like thieves in California. If they smash and grab a store and are caught, if they stole less than $950 worth of stuff they get let go with a promise to appear. Of course none of them do show up at court. So is that really a deterrent to stop theft? I've seen people scam someone out of millions and yet spend no more time in prison than a thief that steals $5,000 because he is hungry or because his wife needs an operation.

If you’ve ever seen or been to an actual court, you’d know the judgments for the situations you describe are justly made. Rare are the exceptions you despise so much.

And it is unfortunate that it is rare. I don't know if you have kids or not, but it some freak raped, tortured, and sliced one down the middle like a Christmas turkey, I would hope that you would not have the word "mercy" on your mind, any more than they showed your child mercy.

You do realize that "life" is rated at 20 years, and then they can get out? I remember the story of a guy who tried to kill someone and went to prison. When he got out he finished the job. I know that the US doesn't give a shit enough to stop these people from being on the streets since they took in all of Venezuela's criminals to add to our own. 🙄
