Is High Political Staff Turnover Normal?

President Trump was criticized during his administration for the high turnover rate of members of his staff. Many people left and were replaced.

Kamala Harris's time as Vice President has also has had a high turnover rate. Of the 47 original members of her staff, only 4 remain, a turnover rate of 92%.

Is this normal?

Wildly different reasons though. Trump fires people who underperform (or "lied on their resume") while most of Kamala's staff quit on their own accord. He also tends to cut people loose as soon as they announce intention to leave at a certain point rather than waiting for that date. It's not great either way, because in Trump's case he has a bad track record even in his former businesses of hiring and endorsing people who kiss his ass the most but weren't necessarily good picks for the job. In Kamala's case, all signs point to the fact she's vain, lazy, and abusive (and probably doesn't exactly attract the best people anyway), which is common in especially female career politicians, but she takes it to an extreme.

The big difference between the two was that Trump fired people who did not do a good job. Kamala's staff resigned because they could not stand working for her.

Well, I certainly don't claim to be an expert in anything to do with the body politic… In fact, I actually actively avoid political discussions. but I am aware that President Trump had a huge rate of turnover within his administration, so it seems natural to me that Kamala Harris would also have a high rate of turnover in her staff. I'm sure that the position of a political staffer is one that is fraught with stress and long hours. So I'm not surprised that there is such a high rate of turnover when it comes to political staffers, regardless of party affiliation.

It depends on why they left. I don't hear as many of Kamala's former employees out constantly discussing how dangerous she is so I see a difference between her and Trump.

It's probably normal for unique situations. Any way you slice it, Trump was unique. Unschooled, unskilled, and unfit in every way and yet he still was president. That's unique. Kamala is the first woman VP. That's also unique. A constant reshuffling of personnel is expected to fit the unknown needs of the new situation as they become known.

It only really says anything if we look into the reason these people kept leaving. And I don't really know anything about that for either candidate.

More importantly, how many of their staff have said they don't want them as president? How many of them have said they're a danger to democracy?

As people realize that Trump is mentally ill, they are probably frightened to be around him or associated with him, and probably do not want to have to put on their resume that they worked for him or his campaign. They may also realize that he is likely to lose the election. Given all this, wanting to find other work in not surprising.

They should have a high turnover rate. For a government worker, the president is not their only boss, the people are their boss too as it is their money that is paying them (without their consent by the way). If government workers fuck around on other people's stolen dime, they should be fired immediately.

Turnover is only half the story.

Trump's turnover was mostly people who were dismissed. The resignation rates were very low.

Harris, on the other hand, mostly had problems getting people to stay. Apparently unemployment is preferable to working for her.

Probably a lot of jobs turn out not the way applicants expected or they get better offers elsewhere or they just think "blah, working for the president wasn't nearly as cool as I thought it would be" no matter who the president was lol 😂
