Since they get so much in kickbacks graft corruption and favors, Why do they have to get paid on top of that? Nobody who spends tens of millions of dollars to get a job that pays 100k is doing it for the paycheck. So screw them and shut it off. If We stopped following their commands you better bet they'd shut whatever we get off, so why can't we shut their paychecks off for not representing us?
Because we too soft as a nation to call them out for it. We only call out the ones not in our party, but since those votes mean nothing to them, they are not affected by the other party calling them out

Other than having an investigation after investigation, after investigation from everything from the possiblity of inpeachment and convict Trump, I don't think they were in The Capital actually doing work that congresspeople are supposed to be doing since Trump was in office.
They got paid for not showing up, which is a travesty! They have no pride in themselves nor any shame with ripping off the United States the tax payers.
Perhaps this is why congresspeople don't retire. They want that paycheck until they die. The real old one's had to change their shoes to the Velcro closers because they couldn't even tie their shoes anymore to go to work, whenever they could drag themselves in.
How i would have things, a representative would be payed 8x the average area they represent. You can't cheap out on representative or they go traitorous. At the same time create an monetary incentive to uplifting the impoverished.
Representative will also forfeit any ability in buying stocks directly but have exclusive double blind stock opportunities in a new wealth management business government owned or privately owned possibly. The whole point is for the wealth management ferm is to buy investments bettering amarican interests while amarican Representative actually represent amarican intrest and creating a positive loop.
Simple: if we stopped paying them, it would guarantee that no one who wasn't insanely rich would ever seek office. Paying them far more modestly isn't necessarily a bad idea, but giving them nothing means that only those who can afford to live on nothing will be able to do the job.
Actually, ideally they would be paid much more than they are now but have strict ethics rules actually enforced so that they can't do insider trading or the other unethical criminal stuff they, their families and friends do now. That way their interests would be better aligned with those of their ordinary constituents.
They should receive no salary or benefits of any kind until the budget is in the black. And all their lobby kickbacks (which 100% of them receive in varying values without exception - don't kid yourselves) should go straight back into the cities within their districts, otherwise untouchable by the federal government.
They should have a salary for the two terms that they are in office and then go back home and let somebody else have the job.

We have to at least pretend they are not actually corrupt thieving criminals, or we all look stupid for voting for them and letting them remain in office.
