Is paid subscription journalism higher quality & more accurate than free info like social media, search engines or free websites in general?

Capitalism dictates that free goods are lower quality & that pricier goods are high quality. Do you agree? What base of voters is getting higher quality / more accurate information because they pay for it? In this era of "fake news" do liberals or conservatives hold the high ground? The capitalist market would predict that honest journalism would survive the competitive market place where free or biased journalism would not succeed.

I would invoke Wikipedia to challenge the idea that market price defines value, its maybe just one case, but its a planet-wide one with massive consequences on information availability, for many countries.

Depends what we call honest journalism here, because any journalism have always been biased? In the sense of bound to an editorial policy. But the biases are probably stronger now, since we live in the era of disinformation and culture wars, "fake news" as you said. Which, logically, will overwhelm those without the toolset to select and analyse information, assigning them to be exploited by whatever populism is trending in the vicinity.

I voted "Free journalism is similarly.." because that's how it works today. But when I was growing up there were some very high quality subscription journalists out there even at the local level. Those days are over. Local journalists associated with big companies and doing deep reporting/investigations are practically extinct. And who trusts the major news guys now? Very few. There's a reason for that.

I Imagine that subscription news is better. Sometimes I can read one of the subscription sites if they offer it for free. I would not pay for it.
