When did the left become pro government?

I'm more so referring to a general shift, not the actual politicians.

When I was a kid (especially my older brother) Rage Against the Machine, Propaganda Obey, and all this other F the government type stuff was popular. Today, It's literally all pro government, do what they tell you or your bad.

When did this cultural shift happen?

At least as far back as Woodrow Wilson if you're referring to the modern trend. You could fairly attribute it to post-war southern Democrats, though it would be more accurate to attribute it to the Progressive movement, though the consequences were probably unintended by many of the people who started it. This was definitely not the case by the time of Wilson's administration, however. Leftist anti-government propaganda in the US is an absolute joke that has really only been about protesting an individual administration or party, not the overreach of government, as proven by the deafening silence from those individuals whenever a (D) administration does the exact same thing or even escalates.

Rage against the Machine etc was more about "fuck what the government is doing" than just blindly hating government. You know CRT, DEI, and all those acronyms that drove the right mad? Those things tell a story of a government with a history of treating some people as inferior and expendable by birth. That is what the left is against. The left is fine with treating some people inferior based on merit, as long as they were given an equal chance but made the conscious decision to engage in self indulgences despite being given fair warning and equal opportunity.

The government is a tool. The billionaires have much of that tool in their pocket. That doesn't make it a bad tool if we can pry it back. The problem is billionaires have nothing to do besides be aware of that fact and so dedicate most of their resources to making people mad at the government for all the wrong reasons or making people jaded with government function, in general. But it doesn't have to be that way if people just kicked the habit 🤷

Back in the SDS days, they planned to infiltrate and take over "the establishment". That involved infiltrating education (check) the legal profession (check), the court system (check) and government service (check). Seating Bill Clinton (not Obama, who was an unexpected consequence) was the hoped for end point of the plan. Hillary would have been the real end point. The left was fabulously successful in their plan.

They are pro-government because they ARE government: The Deep State bureaucracy. The Swamp. That's the REAL reason snowflakes hate and fear Trump. He is trying to Fukk Up 50 years of their "progress" toward totalitarian communist control. The average person here, including Trump's defenders/my contrarians, so not know history. They can't see beyond the bridge of their noses.

Your grandpappy couldn't see past his cataracts. Bill Clinton, per his policies and actions, would've been a Republican today, and the Left had no need to "infiltrate" education and government service, since THEY ALREADY CONTROLLED THEM.

This boils down to what people actually mean when they say "The government". The left has always been in favor of a government that takes care of people and protects human rights for example but that is obviously not all governments nor the government we currently have. As such you could also mean the current government which is both dysfunctional and right wing or you could talk about "The government" as a form of extrapolation to power over people or the authority the state can have over people which often goes against the freedoms and privacy values of left wing ideology.

"The government" is a poorly defined word as such and can mean many different things to many different people. In other words, the culture in the left wing has not really changed.

Then you're listening to the wrong modern bands. And those bands were 'leftist" in support and socioeconomic programs. They also cautioned not to trust government especially as concerns policing, technology, law, racism, propaganda, etc.

Both of those ideas are mutually compatible with liberalism. It's the conservatives who think they own the flag and law and order. I still can't believe that the law and order crowd has no problem with storming the capital and attacking police officers. Back the Blue right? SMDH

This began to happen some time around the 1910's.

Enthusiasm, idealism and strength to resist normally grind away while you travel into your future (age wise).

My own promising class mates from high school -in a majority- now are bowing to the System, and

have become who we swore never to be. Boring repetitive servants, and yes-sayers.

The left still is the left. But people still are exposed to deterioration.
