Do employers ever give a two week termination notice?

You’re expected to put a two week notice so they can find someone. But many times when someone’s terminated it’s a immediate decision.

I think giving someone two weeks unless it’s for something serious would be great. Number one giving someone time to find a new job as well as give them time to find someone new. Whether it’s just a lay off because of financial reasons, poor performance, or other things that aren’t like theft, serious insubordination, sexual harassment, things like that. Why not give someone a two weeks notice.

It is really one sided and often based upon general policy to protect the company from disgruntled employees. Many of them even screw you over if you do the 'right thing' and give them 2 weeks notice by say preventing you from using any of you vacation by way of the same policy.


Morally speaking however the employee has no right to ask for anymore notice than they give you. If they don't garrentee to pay out your sick and vacation leave. Always deplete it before you give your notice.

The fact that many of them will then punish you for doing the "right" thing with such punitive measure really just further undermines the credibility of their organization and its poorly thought out rules.

Regardless of rules in business its who implements them that counts and as such it is always a good idea to pay close attention to what they do to other employee as that is likely what they would do to you too.

They didn't at MY job. My employment was seasonal, but I think it's just common courtesy. Instead, they would literally come into my office midshift and tell me not to come into work the next day

I think seasonal work should be determined how long you’re needed for. Yes many people do it to make extra money more

They do give like what you're saying 3 strike shape up policy. If you ever get fired you know 2 weeks ago honestly.

At the same time unless you want to work for them again your employer should eat shit and die.
