That’s not quite how I read the Guardian piece nor the actual report. It’s 40% of countries around the world where it is stagnating or declined, which are home to over 1 billion women and girls. It is not 100% or even 60% of countries, it’s 40%.

Then those countries that make up the 40% are not really a surprise, Afghanistan with the Taliban, Sudan with constant warfare and religion, then those countries where religion and or politics play a part, Iran, USA, Syria, Iraq etc. The image of those countries tries should not come as a huge surprise, basic human freedoms are often missing, warfare, gun deaths, political dictatorships or close to it.

Cultures that have their women work outside of childcare are falling apart. So the world is only gong to get less and less "equal" over time. Mothers are needed for a culture to survive not more men with boobs.
