My initial reaction was this is bullshit and just another example of Little Donny Convict getting treated like a "special little boy".

I did some reflecting and then understood this MAY be the correct way forward. Here's why:

1) Judge Merchan has been getting death threats and threats to harm his family the entire trial and the death threats have escalated with sentencing approaching. He's human. He can be swayed by threats of violence.

2) He already granted a delay and now this is a second delay. It is much more difficult to argue that it is political persecution if he's giving the defendant an opportunity to avoid any claims of election interference on appeal.

3) He may be playing the long game here where he is betting that Trump will lose the election and then he can impose a proper sentence without any other considerations.

4) Should Trump win the election It is very likely that any superior court would stay the judgment until after his term is ended.

What may seem like giving into a rather unique defendant on the surface may not be the case.

I think it doesn't matter. The information that he is a felon for stealing the 2016 election is already out there for those who care about that sort of thing. And the grievance addiction of his supporters that already got fed from his conviction isn't going to make them any more or less likely to vote from a sentencing. I don't think there's really a margin of undecided voters here unless they are just completely apolitical, which they will continue to be whether he is sentenced or not.

It delays justice but I think bc of the situation its for the best. If he was sentenced b4 the election it would be more fuel on the fire of his "sabotage" nonsense that could cause another Jan 6. Ofc it's not "sabotage" to get fairly convicted & sentenced for a crime you DID commit, but, it's not like he or his followers cares about what words mean...

I guess it is a good thing but I am wondering why. The judge is nothing but a democrat hack who is on board with trying to stop Trump from being re-elected. The democrats are still trying to pass a law taking Secret Service protection away from ex president who have been convicted of a crime. Why not send him to Rikers and hope somebody sticks a sharpened spoon into his belly.

Maybe they do not want to make a martyr out of him. Maybe they know that if Trump ended up behind bars it would push him over the top and they could not possible print enough fake ballots to win. Or maybe the democrats have another way to cheat so they will not bother jailing him.
