These words belong to the last Roman conqueror, Marcus Ulpius Nerva Traianus, the translation is that "peace is not won by compromises but by victories".
In the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Russia does not obtain major victories and does not advance since the first counter-offensive of Ukraine. Can these words foretell the final outcome of this conflict, that Ukraine will win over you?

Russia miscalculated possible resistance of Ukraine and I think Russian strategist expected no defense at all, like it happened by illegal Russian annexation of Crimea.
Now, Chinese banks stopped to lend Russian governments money, because Peking is highly interested in deescalation at eastern EU border. Of course not because of moral and love to humanity, those virtues has no value in politics, but they want rail connection between China and Europe won't be cut off. It's essential for China's economy as alternate to sea route that will be blocked instantly by US if a conflict starts in Asia.
Ukraine doesn't get much money either from NATO. No money, no professional fighters at the front line and conscripts won't fight. "A slave will be never motivated worker or soldier"
Both parties are forced to peace with compromises. Money is the fuel of war, once the fuel isn't there the fire extinguishes

For Russia it’s completely humiliating in that this is a 3 day war by the 2nd most powerful country in the world. There is a simple peace process, a cease fire then a complete withdrawal by all Russian troops and those operating on the side of Russian forces to the pre 2014 borders.

Strangely enough I do have a Trajan quote or what is attributed to him and has been used during training Ukrainian troops.

It is not the size of the army that matters, but the spirit of the men in it.

This reflects the sizes of the respective military forces involved and also matches Trajans view on Romans v their enemies.

I can't find it but there's a great Roman quote that talks about being at war with an enemy before a soldier has seen a battlefield. Use diplomacy and economics to fight them and start wars between them and their neighbours.

I'd go with the words of the ACTUAL last Roman conqueror: "Vita tua". Your lives. That's what he said when asked what the Romans would have left if they rolled over for him and his army, and what they were left with after they did.

The simple truth that it's not those who can inflict the most, but those who can endure the most, who will triumph, belies the fact that Ukraine CAN'T endure more than Russia can; great victories win wars, not peaces.
