Why it's all about "give and take"?

In our society, people often approach you with expectations, wanting something from you, and in return, you’re expected to give. Most people seem to act out of self-interest rather than genuine free will. Personally, I (80% of the time) do things without expecting anything in return, but I’ve noticed that many people I interact with are primarily driven by what they can gain. For example, friendships between men and women can often feel like transactions—mutual agreements where both parties give and take. But what if true friendship is simply enjoying time together, free from obligations or expectations? That’s why I value my solitude. The time I spend with myself is my own, without the need to give or take from anyone else. In the end, if you strip away the superficial layers, your list of friends narrows down to those who genuinely care for your well-being without expecting anything in return.
