Yes they need to adapt. I’m not saying you need to completely forget your culture, your traditions, etc. But you should learn the customs, curtsies, etc in the country you have fled to that you now live in. Not all people flee their country to survive, I get that. But that doesn’t mean you can go into someone’s house acting a fool. I live in the states. We have a lot of Mexicans come here from Mexico. I e met a number of good people from there, but there’s also a lot of them who aren’t adapting to this country. My next door neighbors always have cookouts in their front yard. Not a problem. Different than what most people do. It for some reason they feel a need to toss their beer cans in their front yard. No this isn’t just my next door neighbors. I frequently go to my mother-in-laws’ house who is Mexican (Americanized), even there a number of Mexicans from Mexico do the same. I’m constantly cleaning our alley because we have two big trash cans in the alley. The neighbors are always drinking so in a matter of a couple days they fill up the trash can that’s behind them w beer bottles then they start emptying more trash into the trash can behind our fence. A lot of times their trash is just spilling over that the wind catches it and blows it up and down the alley. Don’t go to another country try to make it what your country was like. If that’s the case than don’t even come here. Obviously your country was that bad you left it but you still want to act the same way. You still want to fly your own country’s flag, then go back. We have a lot of cultures in the states, I love it. I really do. But don’t go to another country trying to trash it the way you did your home country.

I think immigrants should adapt to the culture of their new country. They should assimilate. If not, why are they there?
Do they expect the culture to adapt to theirs?

I agree. If you go to a country, you don't get to change the local culture to suit you like a lot of Muslims tend to do. You go there because you wanna be there, so you go there and integrate.

She has a good point. The reason America has been "The melting pot " is because the immigrants who came here wanted to become Americans. They embraces our culture and learned English and assimilated into our culture. Yes , they still had cultural things that they brought with them but they also became Americans

Now we have people who come here expecting everyone else to change to suit them.

Sweden's system can't handle the level of diversity that certain other countries can. They have to assert themselves on this issue or else risk destroying the culture/economy that allowed them to prosper thus far.

Disagree. It's just INSANELY hard for a VERY homogeneous society to accept differences. It will take patience, understanding and dialogue but it will happen - just not fast enough for her.
