Unfortunately, older women are often presented as “aging gracefully”, whatever that means. I think it is unfair to think that the greatest value a woman holds is the way she looks. If you think of all the adds that portray women (fashion, cosmetics), they are usually in their mid twenties. Older than 40 and you will practically only see them in adds for make up that conceals any wrinkles.

It doesn't seem to be that way for men. Women are expected to conceal all signs of aging. There is virtually no limit to what an actor can achieve in movies, even at the age of sixty or seventy. Think of how restrictive the roles older women are asked to play in movies. They typically play the role of mother, grandmother or - worse still - someone experiencing a midlife crisis. It is less likely to see older women portrayed as the lead character or a romantically desirable character.

You've probably heard of Lisa LaFlamme, the Canadian television journalist who was dismissed after a decades long career when she decided to stop dyeing her hair. Grey hair was not desirable for the executive who made the decision to fire her.

You can google the 'men get old, women get replaced' trope, basically women are considered the fairer sex and there is expectations with that, also women fertility is declining fast.

Youth is important for men as well just for fertility and hormone reasons. You'll notice not a lot of old men can attract women who will actually mate with them

Boys are not exempt from expiring either. Youth and beauty are valued male bodies assets too. I only came to this discovery myself and not too long ago.

I recall some pinks negatively remarking on men balding and getting fat, so I know what to watch out for to preserve myself.

Women are valued for their ability to have kids; men are valued for their ability to provide for those kids. Unfortunately, women have all of their eggs at birth; and typically are fertile until they are 40. When they either run out of viable eggs or all of their eggs altogether. Biology is a cruel mistress, ignoring it will only lead to heartache.

I believe that we all age. Some gracefully and some not so gracefully. It is society that puts the beauty standards on women. A false standard in my opinion. To me any girl that I date is a 10 to me even if only a 4 to others…. Beauty standards to me are mine to have as I choose
