u 1 yThe opinions of people living in the UK don't matter to me. I expect them to prefer their own versions of a nice city and to tell us that we are second rate. I have met too many arrogant Brits to expect otherwise.
So, for us Americans (you remember us, right, the ones who saved you in WW II?,) I don't think you can get better than Charleston

or Savannah

or St. Augustine
20 Reply 895 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I like St. Louis as far as cities go. The arches of course, but besides the downtown area, it's actually really nice. The strangest I'd have to say is the Salton Sea. It is absolutely beautiful, but the town itself looks horrendous. Looking too closely at how the water kinda pickles the birds or anything else that falls in isn't too great either.
10 ReplyThere are a plenty of manicured cities in the USA. You just have to go to were the wealthy people live if you want eye candy. Wealthy people have fancy houses with manicured landscapes, shinny cars, pretty women with sparkling jewelry, private jets, and general opulence. They often aren't the big cities that get major exposure as tourist distentions, because wealthy people like their privacy and don't want all the traffic congestion, crime, noise, light, and air pollution that comes with big cities. The nice places are often small to mid-size cities that a bunch of people don't talk about. For example Boca Raton, Florida. A bunch of wealthy people live there and can easily get to Miami, West Palm Beach, or Fort Lauderdale to do business or for a broader array of entertainment and cultural events.

1 yIf you're only talking about the 50 states, probably Charleston

If you wanna include our territories, then no question, San Juan

1 yBeautiful is a VERY subjective word but I'm assuming you're going for visual aesthetics.
Of course I'm going to say New York City. The touristy parts of cities along the east coast are all great. Boston, Providence, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, Raleigh, Savannah, Orlando, etc.10 Reply 5.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Natural setting? Seattle. Cascade mountains to the East, Olympic mountains to the West, plus Mt. Rainier on clear days, Elliott Bay, Lake Union, Lake Washington. Second San Francisco.

The same as Portland, Oregon. What do you think went wrong?
- 1 y
@bluesparrow Same as every west coast city.
1. Opioids
2. Cheap Fentanyl
3. Reagan closing mental health facilities
4. Mild winters attracts addicts from all over the US
5. Misplaced compassion.

And liberalism?
- 1 y
@bluesparrow WTF is "liberalism" ? We can talk about specific policies that have proven ineffective, and other policies that may work better. Mostly the problem on the west coast is that it's possible to survive winter outdoors.
- 1 y
The summer of love came from a liberal mayor.
- 1 y
@bluesparrow So in other words, it's just a pejorative you throw out when you have no argument.
- 1 y
Who helped Antifa set up shop in Seattle?
- 1 y
Can't wait to visit!!
- 1 y
@bluesparrow Antifa wasn't a problem. Whatever there is anonymity in a crowd there will be agents of chaos. All the person-on-person violence came from the police or the right-wing counter-protesters. I know because I live a couple of blocks from the CHOP.
- 1 y
Why did the mayor let terrorists take over the town?
5.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. None of them. I hate big cities and they're all in a race to the bottom.
That said, Seattle has the best skyline, and a lot of nice looking areas around it too.
10 Reply1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Hard to answer, as I have not seen most/many American cities. I like Atlanta, as it is huge with many skyscrapers

Providence is great
1 yChicago - it's got everything without the terrible crowds, that city has my heart.
10 Reply10.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I can't think of one. Democrats have destroyed most of them. St. Augustine is OK. Summerville SC is nice in the Spring.

00 Reply There is no beautiful city in America. Cities are terrible
12 Reply- 1 y
"Civitas" is Latin for "if the city" . We get our word civilization from it. Cities are the Genesis of EVERY human innovation and progress. Yes, even agricultural progress. It's just ignorant to say cities are terrible. Ignorant.
