What do you think about the increasing number of gay and black characters on Netflix?

Many characters who were not black and gay in the past have been made gay and gay on Netflix. What do you think about this? Is Netflix trying to destroy the morality of my society?

The only time it grates with me a little is when recent historical periods are treated as if racism didn't/shouldn't exist at the time. In 1950 Britain, when it was 99.9% white, people were not being unreasonable asking where people with darker skin came from. Now, they probably came from here, often their parents, even grandparents, did, too, so it is rude and stupid to ask..

Recent Doctor Who has moved in that direction, but it's still awesome!

That said, in general, I approve whole heartedly.

All I care about is being entertained and told a good story. I don't feel like I'm being made more gay or more black by watching stories with those character elements.

I just want it to make sense in the story being told... that's all I care about.

Pisses me off in a way and here is why: Read the Prey novels by John Sandford for a long time, and his Character in the novels was Davenport' a white detective married to a surgeon wife in a Minneapolis hospital.

One of the books was made into a TV film and Davenport was black and unmarried etc and it just really f*&^%$ up the film for me because they not only changed the race of the character, they changed his lifestyle, his clothing choices and even his car. Why do that?

I don't think it's really important for companies to show diversity, they're just jumping on the hype train to make money. I honestly don't care unless it just doesn't fit into the era or the story of the film or series, because then it's just a money-making scheme and ridiculous. 🙈

When I open a Netflix show and see black or homosexual character I just switch off and don't watch it anymore. I think this is some kind of being tired of this monotony and even if I try not to fall asleep, those shows are never good.

As skin colour or sexual orientation have no influence on the story in 99.9% of the cases. So a good show/movie will still be good and a bad show won't get worse.

I like it. I have black gay friends and whenever we see one on TV, I can point and say "look it's you!" And whenever they see a trans character they point and say "look it's you!" LOL. Representation can be fun. :)
