The New York Times did a detailed research on this, and it turns out that Democrat controlled states have the worst economy in the US, with the most expensive housing, most homelessness, and crimes. No wonder this administration is an abysmal failure since the current Democrat party is a disgrace.

It is not a surprise. They all have big governments and have the best welfare benefits in the country which is very expensive. As a result the taxes are very high which makes businesses move to more citizen friendly states and the workers go along with them. This just leaves the welfare class and people that work for the government.

California is the worst example. They have the highest taxes and the highest budget deficit in the nation. Companies are leaving for Texas or Florida where the taxes are lower and there are not homeless people camping out on the sidewalk.

Florida has no state income tax and has a big budget surplus. Republican leadership is the difference.

Here's a good measure of how successful a state is: How much of its income is reliant on Federal assistance. In pure mathematics, what fraction of its income comes from the Federal government.

Now, if you think about it, the Federal Government is just a conduit for money, taking in money from the states and giving money to the states. Or, more specifically, the people in those states.

So, let's examine which states are most reliant on Federal aid... That is, which states get more money from the Federal Government than they get from the Federal Government. Or, put another way, which states are subsidized by the other states and which states are drained by the other states.

Here, take a look at this.

This analysis shows each state's dependency on income from the Federal Government. That is, from an accounting perspective, what fraction of that state's revenue comes from payments from the Federal Government. Included in this analysis is that state's 2024 political leanings. (A state that is "blue", like New York or California, and a state that "leans blue" like Minnesota or Virginia is "bluish". Similarly with "reddish" states being either "red" or "leans red". For those outside the US, "blue" means support Democrat candidates liberal policies, while "red" means support GOP candidates and conservative policies.)

This analysis is interesting because it shows these facts:

• There are 25 reddish states, 19 bluish states, and 6 toss-up states.
• On average, reddish states receive 22.49% of their revenue from the Federal Government.
• On average, bluish states receive 19.62% of their revenue from the Federal Government.
• The national average for all states is 21.51%.

• Of the top 10 states most reliant on the Federal Government for revenue, 9 of them are reddish states, 1 is a bluish state.
• Of the top 25 states most reliant on the Federal Government for revenue, 15 of them are reddish states, 7 are bluish states, and 3 are toss-up states.
• The classic 3 targets for conservative ire are the 3 liberal Democratic deep-blue states of New York, Illinois, and California. They are 36th, 38th, and 49th - all in the lowest 3rd of states dependent on the Federal Government for revenue.

Basically, the trend is: The more reliant a state is on the Federal Government, the more likely it is to be a conservative ("reddish") state.

So, looking at the fraction of state revenue coming from the Federal Government, since the bluish states (19.62%) are below the national average (21.51%) and the reddish states (22.49%) are above the national average, ...

... mathematically, what this really means is, on average, the people of the 19 bluish and 6 toss--up states are giving aid to the people of the 25 reddish states.

A combination of these two things is occurring:

• The reddish states aren't taxing their own people enough so they are de facto taxing the people of the bluish/toss-up states.
  
  and/or
  
• The bluish/toss-up state economies are, on average, better than the reddish state economies which are not capable of generating enough taxes for revenue.

Either way, the Federal Government has to give reddish states more, but that extra money is ultimately coming from the bluish/toss-up states.

So, the bottom line is that 25 bluish/toss-up states are aiding the worse-off 25 reddish states.
