America is lost in the woods right now because of false information and right-wing propaganda, started by and/or for Donald Trump and MAGA, largely dispersed via social media. The false information and propaganda has half of our country believing that the state of affairs in a multitude of areas is in complete disarray, when in reality, they aren’t. I leave my house everyday trying to find the reality FoxNews is trying to convince me exists, yet I never find it🤷‍♂️

So at some point, I have to just accept and understand that these people are liars, lying for deception, lying out of an inability to decipher factuality of incoming information they encounter, or a combination of both. But in both cases, that liar wants their guy Trump to win, for whatever angle of his agenda they’ve fallen for, and will stop at nothing to see it happen.

Elon bought Twitter, and at a pivotal moment in our country’s history, chose to use it for bad. “A town square” for “open discourse”….. see, this is the problem. What the right wing is pushing in a lot of cases is absolute NONSENSE, based in nothing but ignorance or lack of empathy…. Elon is guilty of accepting that nonsense and allowing it to be deceptively packaged as simply a counter-opinion, equally worthy of consideration. Thats what you might’ve been able to do with Republicans of yesteryear, but now we’re dealing with MAGA lunatics.

I don’t have as much time to expound on this right now, plenty more to say, but the bottom line is the biggest enemy to the future of America right now is “fake news”…. not the stuff Trump and MAGA say is “fake news”, but the entire concept of “fake news” that we can’t believe the news we get about current events.

Yes, OBVIOUSLY you need to have some degree of media literacy, consider sources and motivations and biases, OF COURSE…. but historically, that just means the tenor of the piece you’re consuming, not that the facts and the event itself might just be completely made up out of whole cloth.

BUT, in the ultimate example of the psychological phenomenon of “projection”, now there IS stuff being completely made up out of whole cloth, coming from some folks on the right. Nobody is putting kitty litter boxes in elementary school bathrooms, guys, COME ON🤦‍♂️😂 Or at best, they take one or just few of small isolated incidents, and blow it up into a whole thing where it’s sweeping the nation and yOuR tOwN cOuLd Be NeXt👻 It’s fear porn, plain and simple.

Its bad enough FoxNews and now NewsMax have both decided pushing the REAL “fake news” that paints MAGA in a good light is profitable (until you get sued for your egregious lies to the tune of over a quarter-billion dollars…womp-womp-wahhhhhh, lmfao), but now it’s easily spread by known morons John and Jane Q Public via brainless memes easily consumed by stupid people via social media.

Most social media sites at least make an effort to fact-check or shut down blatantly false information (because that’s dangerous to society!), but Elon’s whole deal is like “wait…. let’s hear this “Jewish space lasers out of Italy stole the 2020 U. S. Presidential election” thing out…”

If Elon was just sitting around inventing things, I’d have nothing to say. But MAGA has my country under attack right now, to the point where I worry about the nation’s future if they win…not even JUST Trump, but anyone out of the MAGA movement after Trump is gone. I would be ashamed of my country and my nationality if that were to happen, and I don’t want that to be the situation. So Elon has purposely affiliated himself in support of a movement that I believe to be terrible…. so why would that make me feel positive things about him? It’s got nothing to do with Trump or Elon or any other specific person. It’s just the entire general MAGA movement that I want to see stifled, because contrary to their declared slogan, they would make America WORSE, not “great.”

I'm not left (more moderate) but I don't like the fact that Tesla as a company would have never been possible without government subsidies on electric vehicles. Forcing poor people to pay for the auto purchases of rich people seems like the ultimate form of corruption.

That's a fair criticism, but Tesla is still a relatively new company, and rich people are almost always the early adapters.

The Model 3 and Model Y are both less than 40,000 dollars. That's not Honda Civic cheap, but it's an improvement over ten years ago.

If, a few decades from now, electric cars are an affordable reality for people who aren't well off, and Tesla is a part of that, do you think you might decide that the government subsidies were a good investment?

Tesla was started by other people. He was mostly involved in marketing. Also Tesla has done a fairy horrible job of using their early adoption advantage to the point where other companies has long since surpassed them. The legacy of Tesla was as an early innovator who tried to abuse their position as first for economic benefit rather than to continue innovating.

Things like patenting their charging technology and then spreading the chargers everywhere so that customers are locked down them them rather than competing technologies.

The decisions that Elon has done is not for the benefit of the customer but rather decisions that benefits his own corporations.

Elon Musk became Tesla's largest shareholder seven months after the company was founded, and about a year before their first model was available to the public. It's not like Tesla was a long-established company and Elon bought it so he could take credit for other people's work. And he's been CEO of Tesla since 2008, so no, he's not just a marketing guy.

I'm sorry that it offends you that a corporation would want to make money, but that aside, electric cars are a practical reality now, in large part due to Tesla and Musk. Doesn't he deserve a certain amount of credit for that?

First of all, electric cars was always coming. Conventional cars has reached a technological dead end, we simply can't get anymore efficiency out of the design. We were always going to have to make the switch, even if you dont consider the environmental argument.

As for Musks input in early Tesla, that was mostly high level decisions such as aesthetic design or material choices rather than the technical specifications and inventions that actually made Tesla good.

They were always coming, Elon Musk just happened to be standing around when they did come, and he took all the credit for it., just like he did with SpaceX and PayPal, two other hugely successful companies to which Musk contributed nothing substantive.

Space X has not actually done anything important. Its mostly just rehashing what NASA already did. We do know what the next leap in rocket technology would be such as Aerospike engines or a number of other alternatives. Plenty of scientists has done the groundwork for these technologies and it would have been achieved today if NASA was still funded to continue development.

Instead we are stuck with SpaceX to do what NASA did but worse and they did not even do it alone, they did it with the assistance of NASA engineers and schematics. To say that SpaceX is a disappointment is putting it lightly.

Musk was also replaced as CEO of Paypal back when he renamed it X (because he has some kind of erotic fixation with that letter of the alphabet or something). Paypal took off after Musk was replaced.

Not saying Elon is not good at making investment decisions but I dont actually think he is a very good CEO. Twitter is a good example of what might be the worst business decisions in human history.
