Taking political opinions out of the equation, do you believe Donald Trump is a “threat to democracy?”?

Possibly. I mean, January 6th DID happen, and anyone who isn’t a looney toon understands that he provoked it and some of his supporters carried it out, on their own, and it was exactly what it looked like when we watched it unfolding live, and nothing like what the conspiracy theorists and revisionist historians try to proverbially piss on our legs with as they tell us it’s raining.

We have to have that understood and agreed upon to even continue the conversation, absolute non-starter to suggest otherwise.

I don’t know if I worry about him as a direct threat as much as an influential threat. The most dangerous thing he ever accomplished was establishing this stupid idea of “fake news”, which is just an all-encompassing forever-permission-slip to just dismiss any negative information they hear about Trump or MAGA as non-credible, and we’re totally fucked from that point on. There’s just nothing you can tell the die-hards, it’s like arguing with a small child, and they hold onto this completely manufactured false logic to nonsensically-but-weirdly-effectively refute any logical arguments that, in a sane world, would OBLITERATE their arguments.

So the “threat to democracy” to me (although they’ve shown willingness to be violent) is more “intellectual”, in that tens of millions of people are voting for this guy because they take his words as truth, when, at the risk of getting political, it sure would seem to me (registered Independent) that he’s a veritable firehose of lies. Like most of the picture he paints of the current state of affairs…. I'm just not seeing it in reality, or at least it’s no worse than when he was in charge, or even before he was even on the scene. I’m not insulated from real life at all. I just wonder why all these people presumably aren’t seeing the same things that I’m not seeing, yet they still continue to believe him.

I think FoxNews and the like aid in that a lot, with wholly dishonest reporting, as I see it. I’m getting political, haha, but I’m just saying there are specific news sources that I see trying to reinforce what Trump claims, but again…. I never see it in reality.

I bring them up, and I’d throw other right wing pro-MAGA voices in there too, just to say that it extends past Trump, but exists in service of him, and has to be considered as part of the greater Trump Machine for this question, or at least my opinion on it.

Immigrants aren't really robbing and raping people left and right. Eggs aren’t $7 a dozen unless you get the super fancy organic eggs. I haven’t paid over $3 for gas in a couple months. Hurricane victims aren’t being frozen out for relief. The justice system hasn’t been weaponized against Trump. Babies are not being aborted after birth. Crime is not up. Immigrants aren’t the reason for everything wrong in America. Nobody is eating dogs and cats, lmfaooooo.

All of these things are patently false or grossly exaggerated and mischaracterized for political gain, to shock and scare people who probably already harbor some unhealthy prejudices, and they’re being manipulated to gain their votes. That’s it. It’s not difficult. But somehow, ultimately because of Donald Trump, a frightening amount of our population seems to have no idea how economics work, the level of impact governments have on economy, world events, etc, and just seem to be very, VERY poor at deciphering false information from the truth, particularly if it satisfies a preconceived bias.

Anyone who would suggest suspending the constitution, using the US military on US citizens, claim a free and fair election was rigged, and actively try to steal the presidency after an election he lost doesn't respect democracy or the United States.

No, but his deliberately inflammatory rhetoric certainly makes him look like one. You'd think, after the last, oh, 200 years that would be accustomed to the idea of looking past a politician's words to their actions, but I guess that's too much to ask.

No. But he might be a threat to the United States safety. It depends if you believe the stories about him. Allegedly he had to be talked out of attacking Iran several times. I'm not saying we couldn't defeat Iran. Or even that Iran would be that tough. But as a Superpower you cannot go around attacking pus🐱y nations willy nilly and it not cause a backlash.
