I've tried to somewhat emulate the old gentlemen behavior in my obviously modern life and I will tell you where I've had my issues/shortcomings.

The apps, the phones, all the shit they are effects you with dopamine and your satisfaction levels and gamification of our modern life will work against you if you are not self aware.

I've tried to control everything in my life which is good but it leads to wanting control over every aspect of your life, which isn't possible. Letting go is literally the thing I struggle with most over any topic.

Lastly, emotions will boil over, so have a healthy place to let them out. I box and it was only recently I was finally hit with some really old emotions I've recently confronted and fucking hell, to think years of hardship and trial bottled in will comeback. It might take years as at 18 I could go through anything but nobody's invincible at anything. Boxing is my outlet and it's a healthy outlet where I try to make myself better, men without such an outlet can become harmful to those around them over time.

A lot of “men “ today seem soft, more feminized. I don’t mean soft as in physically speaking or being a jerk. Too many of them are worried about their looks. Don’t know how to change tires, do basics mechanic work on cars as well as a lot of other things. They don’t have manners. Being a man isn’t about being tough, being an asshole. It’s about doing the things you know you need to do to better yourself as well as your family. Even if you don’t want to. Being a man means taking care of your family. Upholding your family’s name. Being respectful. When I was a kid my dad always made sure my mom was taken care of, even if he was dead tired. He always tried to shield her from all things bad, to never put his burdens on her even if he had a stressful day. They are still together after 35 years. There’s a lot more to it, but to me these are just the basics.

It's the same really. You have the masses telling boys who they should be and if they don't get in line they say they're not a real man. In other words your inferior. It's just mind control. It's the same as the past. You have women and men trying to control boys through manipulation. And you have men and women trying to control girls through the manipulation by calling this masculine if they act in a way you don't like. It's selfish. We force people to live how we want to live. A man is someone who has a penis. A woman is someone who has a vagina. It's that simple. A man is not masculinity and a female is not femininity. In general, men have it better. Because

1- They know which children are theirs, courtesy of religion and paternity tests (in most cases at least).

2- They don't have to share their women with other men, courtesy of religion and sexual shaming.

3- They had 2 jobs, make babies and pay to raise them. Both of which they are receiving lots of help with.

4- Many of them are not forced into extreme physical labor or life threatning situations anymore.

5-They are free to go wherever they want whenever they want, as long as they have some type of career.

6- They are easily united for any cause that serves them well.

The difference is the social role and it's norm. Men back in the day what a man was defined by social norms and roles, these days what a man is, is open for debate. There's no longer a norm that's socially acceptable but a question different groups have different answers to.

it has changed as in you're still expected to provide as per tradition but your traditional reward for that has been taken away. like women still expect men to pay on dates, be proposed to, have the man priovide for the family through work while she's rising the childen. but women decided to take the incentive away that motivated men to actually do this. which is being a submissive and nurturing wife. instead women decided it's a great idea to not have children and instead act as if being a CEO is a highly desirable career for everyone which is most definitely neither the case for men nor for women. well we're paying the cost of that nonsense through shrinking population and burth rates. it is what it is.

Men are expected to have more emotional intelligence and provide more mental support today, if they want to be succesful in dating/finding a ltr. Being able to fix and build things is less important than in the past. There is less need for physical strength.
Lots of women also have ridiculously high expectations for men today, which is unfair.

What "being a man" has always meant was being a male who is able to attract women.

It tends to change depending on who you ask. Some say you have to have dark triad traits, some say you have to put women on a pedestal.

I personally think a "man" has to be disagreeable, which is what a the asshole boyfriend types have but it is not an inherently negative trait. It's having your own goals and beliefs and sticking to them, not letting others push you around, and having the confidence to be really good at what you do.
