How much would you pay for a dime?

What is the real value when it is rare? In this case, there's only two know to exit. Would you have paid $500,000? $1M, more or less?

seems ridiculous hugh? It's a dime. Can't even buy a piece of gum with it in a store.

Makes me want to check all my old coins - again.

Someone had that stashed away since the late 70s. It's unrelated, but that's around the time that the Hunt brothers tried to corner the world silver market (and came close to succeeding). There were still a lot of silver coins in circulation then. I'd grab as many silver dimes and quarters as I could, and buy them from people at work for face value. My then girlfriend worked at a vending machine company. At lunch she would go through all the coins and grab all the silver ones. Once we got $200-300 face value, we'd sell it for a big multiplier. We started at about a 6-7X multiplier, then kept doing it up to about 20X or so. By then most of the silver coins had been melted down, and most of the rest were hoarded. I think the multiplier went up much higher, but we didn't ride the wave that high.

I don't have any valuable coins. Probably the most valuable coin is a gold British Sovereign - I think from the early1900s. It's absolutely mint because it's an assayer coin used to assay (verify) other coins, so it had to be perfect.

I collect coins as a hobby. Each coin has two values, its face value, what it will buy, and its collector value, which is based on how rare it is and its condition.

The dime shown has a face value of 10 cents and a collector value of half a million dollars, because it is in mint condition and extremely rare.

I have some rare coins in my collection, but nothing like that. The most valuable is a 1909 S VDB Lincoln penny in very fine condition, worth about $800.

Although I enjoy the hobby, I'm not an investor in coin oddities or rarities.

I have a Lincoln penny that was clearly minted by a broken die.
Supposedly, such examples carry a higher-than-normal value, yet I can't find it being mentioned in any numismatic listings.
I'm hanging onto it just in case.

Depends on what others value it as. Like art, it's actually one of the best investments especially if it's something people want to see.

A dime doesn't seem worth even it's cost. But if you could Lincoln used it to pay off a wench... lol
