What does it mean when a guy randomly talks to you?

Ok so in one of my classes, there is this guy that I normally don't talk to and if I do it's very brief and class related. So one day I was out in the halls during class and he comes up and starts talking to me for a good 5 minutes or so then leaves and comes back a little later and talks to me again for about the same amount of time. It wasn't a weird conversation, fairly normal and all that but it just came out of nowhere. I also haven't talked to him since but I also haven't really seen him either. Please give some insight.
