How you detect lying without catching them red handed?

I can detect lying by assessing someone elses intelligence and if they truly do seem like a smart enough person and saying some easily debunkable or google-able facts... well to me it does come across as if they are lying, attempting to pull one over on others, or have fallen for an over all narrative and unknowingly spreading it.

Another way to put it would be if they do seem to adhere to empiricism (a theory that all knowledge originates in experience) in most areas/subjects but seem to fail miserably in one or more other areas. You would assume most reasonably smart educated people would arrive at the same or similar conclusions but for some reason they do not. It just comes across as sussy to me and does make me think "they know they're bullshitting right? they aren't dumb."

And most especially so if they refuse to show their work so to say in how they arrived at their conclusions... thats a big red flag to me.

Optimistic to think that they could adhere to empiricism, the term and its definition are already too complicated or untrustable for someone who

• Doesn't trust knowledge, aka the byproduct of a collective and historical process anterior to their existence
• Is cognitively impaired or inhibited
• Has a severe mental illness

They can adhere to it without even knowing about it though. if they seem to just have an otherwise good head on their shoulder (meaning they are a logically smart person and can get from a - b normally) but for some reason can't do that on some issue, or subject, or whatever... it does seem sussy.

In my experience, when people make serious use, accidentally, of this concept of empirical knowledge, then they are in one or several of the three categories mentioned above

Experience. As a parent, a teacher and a person MUCH more educated about sociology & psychology I KNOW when people are lying. After so much experience it's as natural as breathing.

yeah experience is nice but even given that im sure there's clues that tip you off that 'this person is lying' right? its probably intuition now but before you got that intuition what were things that you looked for that made you think they are lying?

I was actually very naive and trusting and got played as such. I pecan reading body language both personally and professionally and I think that was the tipping point. If you know the telltale signs with body language, 90% of the time they give themselves away without saying a word.

I would say by the way they talk?

If I'm hearing invisible red flags I ask the same questions in different ways. If they are not lying the answer is always the same. If they are lying I'll get different answers

Law enforcement has extensive training in how to detect if someone is lying.
