One of the worst dilemma I faced as a teacher was coming to terms with New York youth who have no primary recollection of 9/11. By then the kids who had lost friends neighbors, parents and relatives had graduated. It was just me with the monumental task of trying to teach modern history that affected our school so deeply. I decided I wouldn't teach on 9/11. We would circle up the desks with kids I had barely met the week before and just talk about it, dispel conspiracies, the arrogance of our Cold War "peace dividend", the lead up, the aftermath, Iraq & Afghanistan and NOT Saudi Arabia, Homeland Security, the Patriot Act, airports & anthrax, what it felt like for me to bear witness, the sights, the smell, the sounds. I did give HW that night though. I asked the kids if their parents wouldn't be too upset to take a look at the 1 and 1/2 pages that 9/11 got in a 950 page textbook. I would encourage them to ask their parents to read those one and a half pages and ask them if that's the way they remember it. Some years the parents called the superintendent demanding to know why their tax dollars were paying for textbooks that sanitized everything and told wishy-washy stories. I got comfortable in that role and I still contact the kids who lost parents that day 23 years later. It's the very least I could do. Yeah, it's rough cuz to them it's ancient history. My own first born arrived early on September 7th on the first year after 9/11and I just remember thinking "What have I done?" bringing an innocent into this fucked up world.

I'd say it was more justified optimism and besides, there's a reason 9/11 involved box cutters and not tanks and bombs - a strong military could have done nothing to prevent it.

Yeah when I originally supported Trump as a kid I didn’t hear it and refused to hear negative critiques of Trump…. Once I grew out of it and analyzed 1. His promises on the campaign trail 2. His promises during his presidency and 3. His actual actions during his time in The White House from all sources & from HIS MOUTH and TWEETS also INTERVIEWS/RALLIES…..

It was easy to leave Trump behind and cast a ballot to Biden, now cast a ballot to Harris.
