No, I've almost always been like that, too. It's only just recently that I stared getting into political stuff but, only because I don't like the way the country (or planet) is going. I STILL don't follow trends!!
I just do things the way I wanna do them! I don't watch t. v., modern movies, the news, I don't listen to rap or that pop princess shit or even modern metal or country. I dress the way I want to (I don't give a flying fuck if everybody else is wearing shorts that go down to their ankles or t-shirts than could double as a midi dress, I'm wearing NORMAL t-shirts and REAL shorts and, if I feel like it, a scooter skirt!), I don't use modern jargon like, "bro', "brah", "duuuude", "back in THE day", "hate on", "good to go!" or, start every sentence with the word (s), "so" or, "I mean".
Those things are for dummies. I'm too smart for that shit.

Well, following trends and being obsessed with whatever the group is obsessed with is very female instinct. This is why women are more conformist, A friend of mine often jokes that they are like the hive mind, which also means that whoever controls the perception of what "the current thing" is will determine what most women will think/do (mostly media). Anyway, if you don't feel this it could be a couple of things. You could be a somewhat masculine woman; Do you also have a high sex drive? That would indicate higher testosterone for a woman than average. Another thing it might be is autism, since autistic people are less plugged into their instincts in general, which is also why so many of them feel that they might not be the right gender or whatever. It could also simply be that you are intelligent and therefore less driven by your instincts, It means you have fully functioning frontal lobes, perhaps.

I follow politics, but I'm not loyal to any party. I also reject labels like liberal, conservative, centrist, libertarian, or whatever. I don't fit in a box.

I develop opinions on individual issues by doing research, using reason, and following my principles. I can modify or change my opinions as more information becomes available.
But I don't trust politicians or media and I don't care about consensus.
