I do not know about this individual but I do know that Charles Louis Napoleon Achille Murat was the eldest son of Joachim Murat. He moved to the US and lived in the area of Tallahassee during the Territorial period of Florida history, and I believe he is buried there.

Are you researching Murat?

Yes, in fact, it's a long time I read about Murat, in fact, in the many books I have on the Napoleonic period, Murat is mentioned very regularly. He was an incredible soldier.
I wrote a message to his direct descendant to tell him all the respect I had for his ancestor and in fact his family who had always served France and he himself served in the French army and fought in the war in Kosovo.
He replied very kindly, but that's as far as it went.

I haven't.
To compensate: I'm a direct descendant of Johannes Arnolds from 1496.
You can talk to me if you like :)

Ooops - I discovered a typo: the year he was mentioned first in ''my'' ancestry is 1396. He served under King Sigismund (later Emperor) and participated in the crusade of Nicopolis.
Where he obviously survived :)
On return, Sigismund awarded him with a coat of arms, and a mine ownership in what is now Belgium (province of Limburg). This was used by the following generations to build a trade enterprise which included a few ships on the North Sea. The family later on had to flee because they sympathized with the new Protestant ideas coming up. ''We'' then settled in the Rhineland area, with main focus on military service in defense, and in border security.
Sadly, no heroic or other extraordinary stories are told - other than a thrive to be honest, reliable and loyal as a family tradition.
At least I know where I'm coming from :)

10 ReplyMurat is a great example of social change reflecting the Napoleonic period. The son of an innkeeper, he became king of Naples

Joachim Murat, known for his daring and effective cavalry tactics, could have brought a different energy to Waterloo compared to Michel Ney, who sometimes struggled with coordination under pressure. Murat’s aggressive approach might have led him to use the cavalry with more strategic foresight than Ney’s infamous charges, which were poorly timed and exposed the French cavalry to devastating counterattacks. Murat’s leadership might have also spurred greater morale among the troops, as he was highly charismatic and inspirational.
However, Waterloo’s outcome was influenced by numerous factors beyond individual generals’ decisions. - 1 mo
I agree that Murat's cavalry command was magnificent.
Especially in the Battle of Eylau in 1807, the attack carried out by the Russians with 11 thousand heavy armored cavalry against the center supported by heavy artillery fire under heavy snow and mud was exciting.
His attack split the Russian lines in two like a knife.
and this attack
It was shown beautifully in the movie Colonel Chabert
I recommend you to watch
