This is an older article about how badly pregnant women are treated in the Alameda county jail specifically. I do think pregnant women are treated badly across the country when in custody, also the problem remains in effect today.
I personally feel strongly about pregnant women having special protections while incarcerated or not being incarcerated while pregnant if at all possible. Lawmakers need to understand and appreciate that a pregnant woman is carrying another person who isn’t a convict, that person should have the right to be born in a safe environment and have unfettered access to his/her mom. International courts have said that breastfeeding is a fundamental human right for example, so then an infant has a right to breastfeed from his/her biological mother.
Politicians always make grad promises about protecting kids and say “the family is the backbone of America” if government institutions treat pregnant who carry the next generation of Americans so poorly are we really putting “families first”.
This is something that pro-life people should be concerned about, instead of shouting outside a planned parenthood and shaming women seeking a termination, use your voice to stand up for women who are pregnant and the system is failing.
Do you support more robust legal protections for pregnant women?
I know little about this, but agree in spirit and truth. treatment of such be a huge sign of social progress.
I'm not sure we know what these situations are really like and what the people are like.
the goal is healthy functioning people, a good safe environment.
so I'm not sure, but it make sense to have citizens well informed and educated on this and make sound decisions.
maybe if the prisoners were able to tell their stories and be open to others outside, whom can provide a positive social support.
a lof of the problem I'd assume... from what I've seen and hear... is broken homes, corrupt social environments, trauma which results in drugs, lack of good options.
It's solvable if society wants to solve it... if they are raised to care enough. We aren't raising people to have hearts... that needs fixed.

Normally Im not a fan of authorities and the system but in some cases someone needs to step in and ensure an innocent newborn gets to be in a safe and stable environment

Well, I don’t think that any lawmaker would propose a bill giving a pregnant woman a get out of jail free card, I’m for justice myself. My concern is that pregnant women or their fetus could be harmed or targeted in prison. I also think that a newborn baby has a reasonable right to breastfeeding if at all possible. I think it’s to hash to remove a newborn from mom in the majority of cases. Perhaps there needs to be deferred sentences, house arrest or other forms of confinement that don’t involve pregnant women in general population in state custody.
Think of it this way, these women are carrying the next generation of Americans.
I'd take the 18 years. After all maybe I want to have a kid one day, that wouldn't happen in jail. If I was going to jail or If they were drafting women for war I'd start trying immediately.
Ah, why are pregnant women committing crimes in the first place?

After that needed humor, why do they commit crimes is still the question. Can't find good stats on this but drug addiction seems to be common and that can't be good for the baby. It might be best for baby if the mom is dried out.
Isn't domestic violence the most common death for pregnant women and slightly after birth. Unfortunately prison might just be the safest place for a pregnant women. How fucked up is that
My whole point of bringing that up is if we can't be safe in our home, inside our own castle. it's not going going to be provided by any other person or by any prison. Except other then norway.
You know the sick part of trying to do good for pregnant women is that sick and criminal individuals will abuse it and get pregnant to avoid being treated bad while being a criminal.

@KrakenAttackin Whoa, now that's a good one. The way it looks, the unborn child only has the right to serve as a human shield for His/Her mother, and if she does not need not want Him/Her anymore, she is allowed to kill Him/Her in cold blood. However, I must agree with @msc545 that the unborn child has the right to live, as long as it also applies to an abortion ban and not just to serving as the mother's human shield.
@notherndude84 Good Sir, I'm not even a US citizen, so I'm definitely not a Republican, just a supporter of President-elect Donald Trump. Also, I admit that no one controls the actions of women. At this point, not even the least bit. However, the Republicans do not control serial killers' actions, either. Just because the People of Goodwill do not control some phenomenon doesn't mean it's automatically good, evil or impossible to classify as good or evil.
As for abortion being murder:
1. An unborn child's DNA is not that of His/Her mother, it's His/Her own. 2. An unborn child's DNA is human DNA. 3. An unborn child is very much alive, just not born yet. 4. Abortion leads to the end of the unborn child's life. 5. An unborn child is innocent of any crime that would call for a death sentence, and no such sentence is ever issued by any court. 6. Case closed, abortion is murder.
The only exception is a direct threat to the mother's life due to pregnancy. If it's only possible to save one life, each choice is just as bad, therefore each choice is just as good, as well.
@msc545 Yes, it is. Though... In Poland, I think we are more familiar with murder as planned, premeditated taking of human life, and manslaughter as any other taking of human life, including traffic accidents. But it might just be me.
@msc545 That's correct. What I meant is that when I'm talking about murder, I usually imply "premeditated murder". Otherwise, I'd use a phrase like "manslaughter" or "killing".
That’s not how it works. Abortion is a medical procedure that has been well established as safe and effective. You are not a person until you are born. You can scream and cry, call women murderers all you want. It doesn’t change the facts, we live in a harsh world where difficult choices have to be made. Abortion is a choice and often a reasonable option for a difficult situation.
Would you tell a woman she needs to have a rapists baby?
Would you require a pregnancy to continue if the resulting baby is severely disabled?
What if a woman has no means to care for a child?
You pro life men take these absolute moral stances, but you will never walk a mile in a woman’s shoes when she has an impossible choice to make. You are a bunch of hypocrites who would judge and say you murderer.
Life is a struggle there are winners and losers in the evolutionary process. Many don’t get to have life and the chance to successfully reproduce, that’s just life.

@notherndude84 Unborn children are alive and human, therefore they are people. No matter how much You want to change this fact, You will not succeed. Now... Gas chamber executions in German death camps were a procedure, but it did not make them any more justified. That premeditated murder of unborn children has become a medical procedure is a result of a horrible lapse of modern "ethics" that should be corrected.
We the pro-life men (and women - about 52% of white women in the USA voted against abortion in voting for President-elect Donald Trump, who is believed to oppose abortion) take absolute moral stances because morals are mostly absolute. Most human actions are either sins or acts of goodwill. In case of abortion, as I have previously mentioned, the only exception happens when the mother's life is at stake. Since no choice is really a good one here, no choice is evil, either.
Regarding female rape victims (admittedly, male rape victims only have to cope with the shame, they do not carry a risk of unwanted pregnancy), I say there is no need to make a rape victim a murderer. Mental health counseling can be organized for the victim instead in order for the victim to cope with the trauma, paid for by the rapist, of course. Once the baby is delivered, it can be taken in by a foster home until some family decides to adopt the child. And mind You, there are people out there who would kill to have children, some of them probably even literally.
Regarding child disabilities... Yes, I would wish for the pregnancy to continue. I am not God Almighty, therefore I have no right to decide who is allowed to live and who is not. In short, I do not support eugenics.
@notherndude84 Regarding a situation when a mother has no means to care for a child, she's a victim of her own irresponsibility, unless the pregnancy is also a result of rape. At any rate, in order not to punish the child for the potential sin of His/Her mother, the baby should be delivered and the baby should be taken in by a foster home until a foster family is found.
Lastly, the mere fact that God Almighty is not a controlling tyrant of a Father does not mean we can just do whatever we want. There is a price to pay for every single sin, be it in this temporary life or in the eternal life after we die. The prices we can pay in this temporary life are actually quite affordable in case of most sins, so I'd prefer to pay them as soon as possible.
@msc545 Yes, abortion is premeditated murder. It's just that whenever I talk of murder, I implicitly talk about premeditated murder. The only exception in the case of abortion is when the life of the mother is directly at stake, as no sane woman would consciously plan to get so severely ill due to pregnancy that her prolonged survival would be at stake.
