If we're talking about scale and power you're probably right, however I think the French had a greater cultural influence than the British. Even still today go to any French territory you feel like you're in France, while Dutch and British territories feel American in many ways. I think the British to the best job of maintaining their remaining colonies though. They don't really have the same problem with crime and civil unrest that some of the Dutch and French ones do. Though I don't know what's going on with Turks and Caicos right now
Rome ruled everything around it, with a far smaller tech base, for twice as long (four times as long if you count the Byzantines); they've got you beat. The Mongols were bigger, the Achaemenids better rulers, the French better administrators, and the Americans still HAVE an empire.
Even YOU couldn't be bothered to use a chronologically appropriate picture, since Antarctica wasn't even discovered when the US overthrew their overlords, Englishmen had only reached Australia six years earlier, and India wouldn't be under your control for nearly a century.
If you want glory, try claiming what you've actually EARNED.
@NamerOfStars You know, the Dutch actually found Australia a few years before the English, but didn't bother settling the largely barren continent. England only settled Australia with its prisoners (Botany Bay, later Sydney) because the recently-independent American Colonies were no longer an option. I know several Aussies who still call themselves, somewhat sarcastically, POMmiEs, that is Prisoners Of Mother England.
Apart from places like india or Hong-Kong they didn't really take over anywhere advanced. Native Australians still hadn't invented the wheel, or went through any metal age, most of Africa wasn't much better. Yes the British took over a lot of land on map but most of it was virtually empty bar a few spear chucking tribes
My guy friend took me to London and I love it.
One question how come they didn't bring back any good food 🤣🤣🤣

If the British Empire was so great, why has it virtually disappeared, with most of its former colonies now independent countries?
At least the Sun never set in the British Empire. There was always part of it in daylight.
They were. Achaemenid Persia, Tang China, Mongolian empire, Roman Empire & Spains empire all in the running but UK is premier.
Don't really know... the metrics. Square miles (or hectares... whatever 2tne fck you use) of conquered land? Number of people? Gdp?
Too bad they couldn't stand each other. Now Britain can be bulldozed by any number of nations
Should be the other way round actually they can bulldoze any other nation
They have loads of submarines around the uk that can launch warheads to any part of the world
Britain for 200 years controlled global maritime trade.
Lmao and now a tiny country.
It always was a tiny country 🤡
WWI fucked the Brits..
