I am very much a Reagan – Bush conservative. I don’t understand the obsession with Trump and I really don’t think he is so great. I’ve never liked him. Even before he was in politics. On the flipside, the Democrats have gone so far left.

To understand the support that Trump has gotten and to understand why the old establishment has been thrown out in his favor (Remember Jeb?) you have to ask yourself if the electorate wanted something done that wasn't getting done. The answer is pretty clear. Something like over 85% of the population wants a VERY strong southern border. They DO NOT WANT a constant flood of illegal immigrants entering the country. But both the Republican establishment AND the Democrat establishment told them to get bent. That's a BIG part of how Trump overthrew the Regan-Bush conservatives in 2016 and also how he won the White House. And it's how he's done it again.

The other big part is extricating America from foreign wars. Incidentally, part of the reason Obama triumphed over Clinton in 2008 on the Dems side is that he wanted to be LESS involved with foreign wars whereas she wanted to be as or more involved. And of course, Bush Jr. was responsible for the disastrous action in Iraq.

It turns out, that two of the things Americans MOST WANT are to dial down the needless (and endless) wars and to secure the Southern border. Since that hasn't been a priority for either establishment, those establishments have either been destroyed (Republicans) or are about to be destroyed (Dems).

I agree that the border situation was never really solved, but Trump didn’t really solve it in his first term either. And as for wars, sometimes you need to take a strong stance or things get worse. If the Ukraine situation ends the way some people want it I think it paves the road to World War III, not prevents it. what it says is you can get away with war crimes and stealing land from other countries.

On the first point, I disagree. His remain in Mexico rule drastically cut the number or illegal border crossings. Also, just making it clear that he was taking an aggressive stance against illegal immigration--even if not one meter of wall was ever built--sent a strong signal to would-be migrants that it may not be worth the trip.

Under Biden all of that was undone AND the US government PAID people money to come up. And it was well known. So guess what happened? At LEAST 8 million illegals enter and that's probably a pretty low estimate. Harris was in charge of that. It was CLEAR she wanted that. It was also CLEAR people did not. So they voted for the guy who wasn't for it.

As far as wars go--I don't disagree with you that there are times they MUST be fought. But c'mon dude--America was involved in World War 2 for a total of 3.5 years for Germany and another 3 months for Japan. Before that war the Axis powers had a GDP that was collectively equivalent to over 82% of US GDP.

The US was involved in Afghanistan and Iraq for the better part of 20 freaking years! Over 5x the amount of time we were actively bombing the Axis powers. Were Afghanistan and Iraq some giant freaking powers that dwarfed the Axis powers? No--their collective GDP in 2000 amounted to a whopping 0.3% of US GDP. That's fucking insane! So no--I don't think it's surprising that the doctrine of the Iraq days is getting (deservedly) destroyed.
