Well obviously sex is the only frequently engaged in social activity that can also be a criminal activity. And by it's nature there are usually no direct witnesses. Clearly that presents challenges.

In my locale:

Police identify a possible offender in 50% of cases reported and charge in 25% of cases. 1 in 5 or 20% of accusations are withdrawn before police finish investigating. That seems to balance out the identified possible offenders who aren't charged.

That leaves 50% of complaints.

So it seems the woman is unable to identify the offender in 50% of cases but it also seems that if it is a stranger than charges most likely result.

So the problem area appears to be where the woman has very cursory knowledge of the man to the point of not even having exchanged phone numbers with him. If she had a phone number it would take less than a minute to identify the man. That is quite startling.

Of those that go to court the conviction rate is above 95% and will be a custodial sentence.

Yes there are a lot of contradictions. Pleading guilty gets a lesser sentence for saving the victim further pain.

I was assaulted a couple of New Years days ago. I learnt a few things from that. The guy pleaded guilty. After the Police prosecutor read out what she needed to, she never said another word because it was then all over to the defense to give arguments for leniency.

At that point there is just a poor baby argument going on. There is no argument that a long custodial sentence is needed to counterpoise one for a suspended sentence.

In my case there was only argument for leniency. But nearly all victims would want a strong argument for harsh punishment. It ain't going to happen from my experience. Admittedly my assault was a much lesser crime.

if you take my point sentencing is going to be light if a victim doesn't have their own representation to argue for a stiffer punishment when it is all stitched up for light sentences. And it is stitched up.

There is another app that I go to sometimes and there was a woman that asked a question I forget exactly what it was but she had been raped.. she was in college.. and she was embarrassed she did not go to the hospital she did not call the police.

And that upset me I was kind of pissed because I believe that she should have called the police because whoever did it now thinks that they got away with something and they're going to keep doing it and doing it.

She had over 800 answers to her question and out of that 800 I would say 750 of them told the same story. That they to had been raped and maybe half of them said that they reported it.. . So now there's over 300 guys out there that got away with something and will keep doing it and I just thought that was totally wrong... I feel if a girl gets raped she needs to press charges she needs to call the police I know it's embarrassing I know it's a hard thing to go through but the right thing is to call the police. And you're right guys who do get caught don't have a long enough sentence but the more girls that call the police and the more guys that they find doing this maybe it will change everything and there will be harder sentences this is a good question... Because the laws need to change

Most don’t press charges, those that do don’t usually have enough evidence to press charges.


Nonethelsss you should still go forward with reporting it etc. since every bit of evidence you add is also useful for the next person who comes forward so he will eventually get caught.

I’m in Canada in a fairly liberal province so mileage may vary but those laws are mostly federal/enforced by the RCMP here.

If it comes down to her word vs his on what happened and there’s no evidence to support the rape accusation (like her going to report it immediately/enduring the medical exam which finds signs of violence), then there’s not much they can do until there’s more of a case.

Our courts are also catastrophically overstretched right now so a lot of cases are being thrown out when the timeline to go to trial lapses.

The reason many accused rapists are not convicted is because there are so many false rape accusations. The rape has to be proven for the accused to be convicted, and it's impossible to prove something happened when it didn't.
