What qualifies a person as trans, to you?

If you're transphobic or don't believe being trans is possible, then this question isn't for you.

For everyone else, do you have something that qualifies a person as trans? Do they have to put in a certain amount of effort into looking like the opposite sex in order to "count" in your eyes? Do they have to change the way they act or talk? Do they have to do surgeries to remove their reproductive organs? Something else?

I am not transphobic, as I am not afraid of anyone who calls himself or herself "trans."

If you have XX chromosomes in your somatic cells, you are a female, regardless of how much you try to look or act like a male. And if you have XY chromosomes in your somatic cells, you are a male, regardless of how much you try to look or act like a female. It's really that simple.

A belief in their gender not being congruent with their birth sex. I think that at the very least seeing a therapist for gender dysphoria and getting on hormones is my deciding factor. There are others who say even that is asking too much, but I don't think so.

I don't think that's too much to ask. It's only fair to have some kind of criteria and your criteria seem very fair to me. And clearly not coming from a place of hatred. I think requiring the removal of sex organs is when the line gets crossed. Because it's a line that you can't cross back over. That's asking a lot of someone.

I changed very little about my appearance when I transitioned. There are plenty of masculine women and feminine men who are not trans. Being trans and being a masculine woman wouldn't make you invalid either.

Having qualifiers, including what the two women in this post have said, is a clear form of transphobia. No one gets to decide if someone else is trans or not. It's not any else's business. Requiring crazy hurdles to get validated for your identity is such a regressive, hate-filled position to take.

By current definition anyone that says they are trans. You can't assume people's sexuality anymore or their gender. Obviously as a practicing Catholic I think that's all nonsense.
