The whole system is stupid. Either you have rule of law, to which everyone is subject irrespective of the position their family holds, or you don't.

The concept of any President being able to overrule a lawful conviction without any new evidence at his whim is more akin to the power of a king than that of a president.

The Democrats have repeatedly stated they are "defending democracy" over the last four years, but every action in the past year from changing the rules of the Primaries that led to RFK Jr becoming an independent to the removal of Dementia Joe as candidate and his replacement with arguably the least popular VP in 270 years, the way the withdrawal from Afghanistan was handled to how immediately after losing the election Dementia Man authorised Ukraine to be given weapons to use that may start a nuclear war between now and the end of his term, they have demonstrated that as a party nobody in the world can actually believe a single word they say.

So now Dementia Joe has pardoned his son, a 180° turn on his promise to the American people that he would abide by the rule of law. But hey, nothing else he's promised in the last four years was true, why should anyone be surprised that he lied about this too?

Question: legally and logistically speaking, does being pardoned mean the documents and files are sealed? Can things still be looked into? Meaning Hunter is pardoned, yes, but what of others who may have been involved? If he is pardoned of all crimes, what is he pardoned of specifically (I didn't read the article)? If a crime did occur, what was it, who was involved? And if he is pardoned, good for him, the case isn't "pardoned" and put to bed... is it?

I'm conflicted. It was suspect how the plea bargsin fell apart BUT it did so then a new MUCH shittier deal was offered and like 92% of criminal indictments he pleaded guilty. So far I'm just miffed over the political nature of the prosecution because his name is Biden BUT HE DID THE CRIMES - there's no spinning that - it's now only a matter of what is justice?

Now, the pardon. I'm conflicted. The purpose is to right injustices and this was one. Thanks to POTUSs like Slick Willy and others there's precedent too unfortunately. That said justice is NOT served by the pardon because now he's off Scott free. Justice is somewhere in the middle.

The optics are TERRIBLE! MAGAs are gonna bellow that he pardoned him in a blanket manner to cover up his own (fantasy inspired) crimes. It adds to a really shitty precedent. It gives MAGA the (accurate) opportunity to say Joe is a liar for backtracking.

I would favor a future facing commutation after he's done some time but that's not an option. Like I said, I'm conflicted. 🤷🏻‍♂️⚖️

Sure. I don't like that Biden lied and I think the law applies to all of us and this idea that a president can pardon themselves, friends, or family after being convicted in a court of law by a jury of their peers is wrong. I don't care if Hunter was punished to the fullest extent of the law because it's still within legal punishment.

I believe when the courts and a jury makes a decision, after lawful appeals, once the conviction is set then the person needs to be sentenced. I can't say the law only applies to my opponents. It has to apply to me and the people I support too. We need to get back to being level headed and logical that even if we vote for someone, and believe they're the best or better candidate, it doesn't mean they can do anything and get away with it.

We need to be open to criticizing even our own affiliated party. We have to in order to be fair and objective. If we can do this then we can have conversations that are more productive. We just can't have either side saying we can do no wrong. We also need to respect checks and balances to preserve our constitution. Don't like a law, peacefully rally to amend it.

Sorry fellow non-leftists, but as a parent, I'm actually fine with the President pardoning his son (even though he completely changed his mind). Short of murder and a few other heinous exceptions, I doubt that I could live with myself having the power and authority to save blood, and just stand by and do nothing. That doesn't mean that immediately after the pardon I wouldn't "Paulie" him (think Goodfellas).
