President Biden is considering blanket preemptive pardons for prominent critics of President-elect Donald Trump in both parties to shield them from possible retribution or legal prosecution by the incoming administration. Trump has promised to do these things.

Definitely not a good idea, but it might be necessary, from Biden's perspective.

If Fauci and friends were actually clean, they objectively wouldn't need the preemptive pardons, and that's just a fact. Trump could launch his investigations and lawsuits all he wanted, but if they weren't meritorious, the claims would be dropped.

The problem with Biden giving those pardons is that it's the kind of move that serves only to alienate the public. People already feel like their bureaucratic overlords are untouchable. Biden granting those pardons would only cement that perception.

So Trump granting pardons, which he will do, creates the same problems that you mentioned. Republicans won't care. Biden might as well do it too.

Sure, and it's worth mentioning that basically every other president has issued pardons as well. I think it's important that we all be very honest with ourselves about what's going on, though.

Biden isn't pardoning cirminals for specific acts; he's making very broad brush pardons. THAT is the unusual part of this story.

I guess we're gonna find out. This has never been done before. Intuitively, if the legal system actually functioned, I don't see how he could.

Nothing is more politically crazy than letting Felon Trump have access to the levers that deemed him a felon in the first place. It would be like letting the last defendant be the "judge" in the next case.

I wish Biden would not have to do this, but I think he is being careful and I don't blame him. However, I also feel it was a great idea for Biden to appoint 39 Liberal, African Americans as Federal judges. I was hopgon he would appoint Jack smith as one too. This will somewhat help any cases that may go to court that Trump has in mind to do as retribution for those who went against him.

Since Trump's first and only concern is loyalty to him so that every aspect of the government can function to gain personal revenge for him, they are very necessary.

Trump should be heavily blocked from abusing the counties legal systems. If that preventing means blocking pardoning criminals. That I would agree with. Presidents shouldn't be allowed to pardon anyone. Even sons..
