No matter where you live, if you've ever lived in CA, you have to follow our laws for the rest of your life. You can be arrested if you ever return to CA if you did something that was legal in another state or country, but against our laws here.

We even tried to pass a tax on former CA residents too, but it didn't go through. Yet. They'll pull it off. We own you for life.

Yep. Former CA POST certified cop. Did over a decade there in LE. We learned this in the academy, but in my entire career only applied it once. A guy moved to another state and got his new 17 year old girlfriend there pregnant, and decided to move home to raise the child in his hometown. I arrested him for it lol.

The law is really only applied to age of consent stuff. It's not like we arrest people for gambling in Las Vegas or something.

The tax thing is abhorrent though. Legitimately psycho behavior.

I was actually wondering about this though, what if someone from another country with a lower age of consent, like let's a 40 year old married a 15 year old and immigrated to the US or even just came on holiday. Could the guy be charged with something since it's illegal in the US? What if they were only dating?

Ugh, well I can't find it now. But there was a video of an guy who got pulled over by CHP 'cuz his car was shooting flames, which he said is legal in Michigan, and the cop couldn't ticket him 'cuz the car wasn't registered in CA so it wasn't subject to CA vehicle code.

Also, assuming you did do something in another state that was illegal in CA, how would they even know? You wouldn't be in the system because you didn't break any laws.

Not buying it. I don't believe for a minute that a state can arrest and/or prosecute you for something you did in another state where it was legal.

The crime either has to be actually committed in California, or the RESULT of the crime happened in California.

How do you think people get prosecuted in the US for child SA in other countries? Where it's legal in those countries? I promise you, it's a fact. I just learned it in my criminal justice course, and a cop on here said he works in CA and has enforced it too.

Exactly and it has to be a violation of California law.
Same reason a California cop can't ticket an out of state vehicle for having no front license plate, because a state can only enforce its own vehicle codes.
