If people want to do something that is unhealthy, they should have that right. . . unless the unless healthy behavior has a negative impact on others (like smoking in a restaurant.) If the government has the right to tell women that they can't wear high heels, next they will be telling me that I can't eat biscuits and gravy, and that will lead to the great Biscuit Rebellion.
We need less government, not more!
@Staximus You can be a field General!
Rather than ban the dangerous items, they should do like everything else in the govt...
Require licensing, registration and insurance. Properly trained humans whom go through the certification processes can wear heels within time limits and certain curfews, since they can be hazardous in various ways. Yearly calf checkups required by law would be a boon to insurance companies and physicians creating jobs.
Also add insurance to cars since people driving can be distrated by the visuals which leads to accidents. more people could be suing women for distracted driving accidents... since we know democrats like to blame someone else other than the person "pulling the trigger". We all know it's always been a problem with women causing most problems.
I've never heard this before. Hummm... I think 🤔 people don't have enough to do with their lives and do stupid stuff like make laws like this one! 🙄
Is that so women can't run away when you try to shoot us with your legal assault rifles.
You know those MAGAs. They love their guns more than their lives
Are you suggesting that you can only run in heels?

They have lots of thing "rules and regs" to make it seem quaint - Carmel-by-the-Sea’s website mentions both the lack of street lighting and the high heel ban as “fun facts” about the city, along with “no chain restaurants” and “no street addresses.” You had better know what the house you need to visit look like - there are only hints such as “fifth house on the east side of Torres Street, green trim, driftwood fence” or the legendary names adorning houses, such as “Hansel” or “Sea Urchin". So, I guess confusion = "fun". Add that to my list of places to avoid.
doesn't surprise me. its the only place in usa its illegal to ride a motorcycle. they are really rude to us. 30 years ago went to sears point raceway for the motorcycle races. paid all weekend pass to camp there. they came to us and kicked us out. we had get our tents packed up before the races were over. and leave. when i wanted to stay til Monday as i paid for to dont get out with the crowd. and see the whole race in peace and meet the crews and dtivers as i had pit pass... i payed for. i never went back... carmel sucks. monterey. liked us there at the beach left us alone... stuffnose rich assholes there. unreal clint eastwood was ever mayor of such crap town
No, I didn't know that.
I guess on cobblestone streets and uneven surfaces it doesn't make sense to wear spikes. It seems like the town is concerned about liability and the permit relieves it of that.
I had one girlfriend who was 5'1" and always wore heels. She could wear spikes with ease but usually wore chunky heels that were maybe 3". One day, we walked all over San Francisco up and down hills. She was wearing 3" cork wedgies. My feet got tired in sneakers and got tired but she never complained. In those shoes, I'm sure she would have had no problem walking around Carmel.
Ah I love weird laws like this. A quaint town should have quaint laws that no one else has to be perfect.
Has my full support.
In Western Australia it was illegal to be in possession of 50 KG of potatoes without a permit. Sadly it was repealed in 2016 after 70 years of being the law of the land..
It is good for the soul for there to be laws you can brazenly flout without consequence.
I'm hoping some more weird ones might be documented here.
Did Clint Eastwood do this when he was mayor?
Apparently, it was done before he was mayor.
wow, hats messed up but there are plenty of crazy laws out there, According to @RandomGirl42 it is illegal to serve beer to moose in Maine.
@exitseven That makes sense. I would never want to run into a drunk moose. 😉
@AviatorTom I hear that Bullwinkle was a funny guy after you got a few drinks in him.
No, it's illegal in Alaska. I drink with moose in Maine all the time. But none of us are wearing high heels.
@RandomGirl42 Didn't a raccoon break into a bottle shop recently and pass out drunk in the toilet?
Do moose pass out drunk in Maine? Or can they hold their liquor better than raccons?
🤣🤣🤣
Apparently caused by a 1963 law to provide safety, isn’t enforced.
You can even get a free permit as a souvenir.
America has weird laws on the books, this is one of them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I didn’t know that. It’s absolutely shocking that there are any laws restricting the otherwise wholly unrestrained rights and privileges of women in California.
As a former doorman, I can't remember how many times I saw drunk girls walking out of the bar barefoot because their stupid high heels were killing their feet. I've seen quite a few drunk girls sprain their ankles wearing them, too.
Good! Whoever invented high heels for women is a sadist!
I actually didn't know that, or if I did know it, I had forgotten about it. But I think the underlying reason for this might be because their streets and sidewalks are in really crappy condition usually, thus making it more likely that a woman might fall and sue them.
I never knew... interesting, thanks for the info.
(I prefer girls in sneakers, so...) ;)
I did not thanks i won't pack them next time I go there
Everything is illegal in the commiforcation state
Because something is stupid doesn't mean it should be illegal.
No, but considering it was illegal for many years to eat ice cream on the street, I'm not surprised
That sounds odd to me. How do you know if that is true or not?
@wonderingmanii Did you watch the video? She shows some of the legal documents involved.
And this is California... so we shouldn't be surprised. 🙊🙉🙈
I didn't feel like picking up my headphones for that video. Anyways with as liberal as California is, I always think of Bikini girls and surfing. How does that make sense with a no heels rule?
The whole thing is quirky and cute but makes sense in a way.
Never heard this
you probably need a thousand permits...
Not surprised, it's a republican town
Is that because of its ex-Mayor Clint Eastwood?
Good
