If you're a Canadian are you happy with your government?

My dad is from Canada and I am a Canadian citizen. I had a Canadian passport as a kid but it expired at some point and I didn't bother to renew it because I didn't need it.

Recently I thought about trying to get my citizenship certificate and then my passport renewed I just wanted to see what the process would look like. I called the embassy in Bern. I thought maybe I can even go by there to make sure everything is right. they don't even do any services there. They tell you to call the embacy in France. Then I called there and they tell me to push buttons for 3 minutes just to tell me to go on their website. So the embassy of 2 different countries, they only do emergencies nothing else. It seems like they're really going easy on themselves. And their websites and forms seem purposefully designed to make you not want to read them or fill them out. It's like they hired someone to make it the most tedious experience possible. Maybe it's gotten slightly better over the last 10 years but it's still not great.

I mean aside from the housing crisis and big political problems like that. Are you happy with the basic services of the government? They only have 40 million people to take care of but they're acting like it's 500 million or something.

Maybe I'm seeing it too negatively so I wanna hear your perspective on this.

When I was a youngster, My homie and I decided to ride our bicycles into Canada. Everyone warned us that our point of entry would be going into Grizzly country. No problem. I had a shotgun in my trailer. I called ahead, and that was legal. The Canadians freaked out about the shotgun. They were terrified. So in the morning, when we emerged from our pup tents, there was a black bear checking out our campsite. Black bears are pretty friendly, but just hungry. When she saw us, she just scooted on her way. She didn’t want any trouble.

When I look back on that moment, I think we were crazy. But I wouldn’t have changed a thing. What an adventure. Kevin Costner danced with wolves? That’s it? LOL

I can't comment on Canada or it's politics (I'm British) but... it's what you describe happens for a lot of other services too! Nothing worse than not being able to speak with a person and just getting sent around in dead-end loops.

Crazy for something as important as yours then! Maybe your have to feign it's an emergency like a family death or something.

Curious, what is "Canadian food". we have no such restaurants around. Do they have quisine?

I'm Montreal I found it was similar to American food (don't mean fast food although it was available) and also other ethnic foods from around the world.

My question was more about the small everyday things you have to do. Like pay taxes, register where you live, get a drivers license things like that. I wanna know how good or bad it is because I got a bad impression. But I don't really have an opinion on Trudeau I don't care enough tbh. How can you be a monarchist and left wing? Trudeau gives it sense lol - personally I am a leftist and a monarchist. Oh that's because sir or dude very easy: to a degree, like any person, in any "free country* of democracy - I just have my political views. I can be a monarchist and still support initiatives aka policy here in Australia as am Aussie, for welfare, healthcare, unions and trade unions / workers rights, freedom of speech and freedom of religion and secular state and so on :)

So you're for unions to fight against greedy companies for workers rights but you think a king that is even worse than a CEO is a great thing. Do you know how much money they make directly off the tax payer? It's not your tax money but still I don't see how you can be o the left and for a monarchy just in principle it makes no sense. The only reason is because you were influenced from childhood to believe that this is a great thing but it's not.
