No, they are competing with other companies who can do it cheaper by paying employees less and charging the public less. It's supply and demand, that is there is a labor surplus so they can pay less, when there is a labor shortage they have to pay more. Unchecked immigration means there is a surplus of labor driving wages down. Without the minimum wage they would pay less, before the minimum wage when we had stronger immigration laws the minimum wage wasn't necessary because companies had to pay better or they couldn't get workers.

Wages should be based on the law of supply and demand. Companies will pay as much a necessary to hire and retain good employees. If they could get the same performance by paying less, they would.

If you adjust $0 for inflation you still get $0. The minimum wage is a barrier to work. When you raise it, it leads to more automation and more inflation. People like to talk about jobs Americans won't do; but that is complete BS. There are, however, jobs Americans can't do because of the minimum wage. You have a job that pays $6/hr and the minimum wage is $7.25/hr. Guess you either have to raise your prices so you can afford to pay the minimum, hire someone under the table so you don't pay them the extra $1.25/hr, or find a way to get rid of the job through automation and giving the rest of your workforce the responsibilities. But then why would you bother understanding the economic implications of your repeatedly tried and failed policies; when you can just double down on them making everything worse? I mean it isn't your money; so let's go spend it all. About 11 years ago I was making $15/hr as a confirmation chemist. I had paid off my student loans, and a car, and put a down payment on a house. But here you are telling me some 16 year old kid mopping the floor at McDonald's should be paid $30/hr. I guess I shouldn't have gone to college and gotten a science degree; and just gotten a job at McDonald's and demanded a ridiculous rise in the minimum wage to make money. They certainly wouldn't raise prices to account for increased employment costs. They definitely wouldn't let people go and make the remaining staff pickup the slack.
