Should companies like doordash/Uber eats Instacart pay state minimum wages?

I am a DoorDash delivery driver and that’s my main job. I know I make less than minimum wage. I know I can go an hour or two without getting a order it would still be nice to get paid while I’m waiting. what are your thoughts

So in a nutshell if you work for doordash or uber you are not actually their employee.

These companies Do Not employ their drivers. They outsource it to you and you are acting as a freelancer. This is why they can avoid any mandated hourly pay and alike.

We could rewrite laws as such that this type of, in these companies' case, exploitative behaviour is no longer legal and force them to employ their... employees.

I personally feel there is a role for this businessmodel and being able to freelance with relatively low barriers of entry can be a great thing. As with anything, if it can be taken advantage of it will be. A solid union could barter out some guarantees.

Doordash will promise you an hourly wage even though you aren't working. But you will be working more than anyone, and they will royally screw you. You will be eating all the crap deliveries that no one else will do. Your gas bill will go through the roof. Oh, and that hourly wage will be much less than minimum wage.

The trick is to sign up for all three of the main food delivery companies. I run all three apps at the same time, and cherry pick the best deliveries. I leave all the crap DoorDash deliveries, for the "Top Dashers." They have to do them to maintain their bullshit acceptance rate. I'm a bottom dasher, so they know better than to send me crap deliveries, because I will refuse them. So they just send most of the crap to the Top Dashers, and the hourly idiots. They will never pay you a fair wage, so just learn to play the game better than the rest of the players.

That makes sense I’m already driving 60 miles to get to the time where I do DoorDash since I’m in the middle of nowhere and it’s basically retirees a methheads out here and I’d rather not sell meth. If the federal government actually came into this town and crack down on everyone who deals Meth they would probably be maybe 200 people left in the town, basically children and retirees and me. we got 3357 people in this town.

But I’m definitely gonna have to look into that hourly wage saying I don’t mind getting crappy or deliveries when I’m in hood river OR I don’t drive that far anyway the sucky thing is when I have to go over to White Salmon because of the toll bridge

There's also grocery services you could do. If there's a Walmart around they need drivers.

I’m sure if I went to the tri-cities that would be an option (101-109 miles away) Hood River only has doordash they do have a Walmart down there but I’ve never gone to Walmart for doordash. I tried Yakima for a day but I got the same amount as I did in good river which is a 10 miles less drive

And unless I want to sell Meth, there’s really not a better option in Goldendale this is a retiree/drug town

Not DoorDash, download "Spark Driver". They deliver for Walmart. Well, so does Uber Eats.

I’m gonna have to do that. I’m not sure if they’re in hood river I tried Uber eats and Instacart but they’re not set up in hood river. There’s not much on the east side of Washington and Oregon

I have I just need the money to be able to move I was thinking Idaho or Montana or Tennessee or Florida I don’t know if I could afford Tennessee or Florida that’s not a thing Idaho or Montana. I like my weed so probably Montana it’s a red state with legal weed

Didn't Doordarshan institute a new thing where if you make a minimum 50 deliveries in a week's time you get a guaranteed 500 dollars? I read this and I assumed Doordarshan instituted this to ensure a steady stream of drivers. When you think about it that's kind of a form of minimum wage.

Here's the kicker. If they do that then they will be forced to raise prices which means a loss of customers

Then all companies should leave washington immediately. Enslee is forcing businesses to pay there employees 17.50 next year it will be 18.50 by 2026 it will be 20.50 an hour Washington state law says that the minimum wage is supposed to go up by one dollar every year

Where I live target and wallmart closed because shoplifting, assaults and criminality is so bad that its unprofitable, I know its not the same but my point is that companies care only about their bottom lone profit margins.

I take it you live in San Francisco? Yeah, I’m surprised businesses haven’t moved out of Seattle or Portland. The McDonald’s we have here only hires family and some friends. So 98% of the workers are Natives and you have 3 white people.

And yeah, I didn’t McDonald’s after the layoff like 10% of there employees? I heard something about how they won’t be hiring any more workers for a while if Washington keeps up in increase of the minimum wage like it’s doing it won’t be worth businesses, like McDonald’s to stay in Washington fortunately I’m on the boarder of Washington and Oregon

Yeah but McDonald's did that globally. They worked out that it was just more cost effective to put in computers to take orders. They officially laid off 10% but the real figure is higher because what a lot companies do now like wallmart or target or Starbucks is that rather than fire you and possibly have to pay redundancy money or cut through legal red tape. they instead rely on "natural wastage" in which they start messing with your hours or job role. Basically they give you less hours or irregular hours or hours they know you can work so that in the end you leave.

There are no different jobs in my area, The main money maker in this town is meth dealing and the town has such a bad reputation that people outside won’t hire people from this town.
