Opinions on California boosting up the pay for fast food workers to $22 an hour?

Why stop at $22/hr? Why not make it $50/hr. Hell... make it $100/hr for fast food workers. That should fix the problem, right?

This is exactly what I was saying several years ago when people were crying that fast food workers need to be paid $15/hr. They need a "livable" wage. No... they don't. I'm sorry but some jobs just don't require the technical experience, the physical ability, or the mental expertise to justify a wage that high.

The more complaining people do about fast food workers earnings, and the more income they demand, means that they WILL get replaced - with machines - sooner rather than later. So keep complaining and whining and moaning and groaning about how bad it is. The higher their prices go for food means I (and a LOT of other people) just won't go there to eat.

I remember the time where the minimum wage was 8$ an hour.


And back then. A gallon of gas was like 2$ in California.


Now minimum wage is 15$ on average and a gallon of gas is 6$ At most gas stations.


But people are too stupid to realize this. They just see a bigger number next to the dollar sign and think they’re making more. Wrong bozos, you’re just back to where you were before, only now the numbers got bigger

The correct, non-class traitor way to view this is "if fast food employees earn $22/h, then surely industrial drivers deserve it too and we should fight for that next".

Fast food prices are going to rise even further. Did you notice how expensive Taco Bell and Burger King have gotten? Its not just because of inflation; its because states are forcing companies to pay workers much much more.

You said "everywhere" but I just have you examples of places that prices haven't increased. And yes, numbers don't lie. If places like Mint Mobile or Arizona Iced Tea or certain products like smartphones, children's toys, eggs, tomatoes, and especially TVs. The price of many TV brands is exactly the same as 2021. This is just price gouging from greedy corporations and proof of capitalism failing.

California has gone completely over the edge since I lived there. What this really is is a way to buy votes, and the employers and their customers have to pay for it. Also keep in mind that not all of California has a high cost of living.

This kind of wage will affect all employees including those who live in much lower cost parts of California. In some parts of California this will put fast food workers well up into middle class. It's a huge amount of money in those places.

Eternally convinced governments only raise minimum wage cause they know businesses will raise their prices, and with them taxes. Also, give it 6 months, if this happens big businesses will just buy robots and small businesses will have to shut down. When I frist started working Minimum wage in Wisconsin was $2.20/per hr. Now Wisconsin's current minimum wage is $7.25 per hour.

But when I was born Wisconsin's minimum wage was $1.25 per hr

It is definitely not "fair", even I don't like it because I went to college and $22 an hour is more than I made when I started as a computer programmer.

But being an adult is not about "fairness" it's about doing what is right. It is right to give the many single mothers and people living in high rent areas a better pay check. If California is unwilling to put in some rent control then they can at least raise wages to reduce the homeless problem.

And hell, I might even decide to become a fast food worker part time.

That's more than fast food workers make an hour in Australia. The average wage is between $18 and $21 an hour. What's a CDL - A driver?
