Why is it that when a cop pulls you over, they ask if you know why they pulled you over? Does it really matter?

From what i heard many cops would ask rhetorical questions as a means to check for alcohol. How you speak or how you react. The “do you know why I pulled you over” seems to be in beaded in the culture. Though i have only been asked this question once when pulled over. There isn't much of a clear answer to the question because you dont know.
They want you to incriminate yourself. "I was speeding." Now they have you proving of a crime.
https://youtu.be/uUEUG-e5w1I?si=eQBVOno4HBumu3cQAs a woman that's my time to play dumb/maybe even flirt to get out of a ticket. I always say I have no idea why you pulled me over and then giggle a little. It has worked multiple times 😂
The only intelligent answer yet.
Only a moron would. A cop pulled me over. He asked me why I thought he pulled me over. I told him I was hoping he knew. His face got beet red.
These people are not the brightest bulbs.
They want you to admit you knew what you were doing was wrong. Never say yes and plead ignorance.
It must work with retards.

Yes, it does matter. I was stopped once by a Sheriffs Deputy and he took me back in his car to show me where I passed another car in an intersection, which can be a potentially fatal mistake, by striking head on a car turning out of the cross street.
Yes, it does matter.
because they could get you to admit to the fault... which speeds up the process, lol...
and also, they might want to know if you had a "reason to do so" for example, an emergency, lol
And you still get the ticket.
if you are at fault, yes...
if you're at an emergency, they might assist you with it
Sure.
They just want you to think about what you just did. Just be polite and repentant and if the cop is in a good mood maybe you will get off with a warning.
They want a confession that justifies issuing a ticket.
I've never once had a cop that needed justification] for a ticket. They have the guns.
And if you are really stupid, you will give them the confession..
Go for it. I don't grovel.
Trick question. If you don't know you were speeding it makes it worse. If you do know it makes it worse.
Of course it does. They're checking to see if you actually know the law but broke it anyway, or if common rules has somehow evaded you. Either one of those scenarios is a problem.
Sure. LOL
At 35 years of age it's embarrasing that that's your response, grow up man. You're not 5.
They want you to make an admission of guilt or fault. It just makes thier job easier.
That might work for really dumb people.
No, particularly if you look like me, which is called "Driving While Black".("DWB").
Bullshit.
Say because I ran over that imbecile.
So you incriminate yourself obviously
