To hold that citizenship or other identifier / ethnic / ancestral / blah.

If you're asking in a more sociological or pop culture nuance sense, of my own bias, I'd say an American is someone who belongs to a country America that is the world's superpower, however it's just as much equivalent to a puppet on puppet strings as any other nation or power or empire that's ever existed on earth, past, present or future, you know - I mean the same reason I look at entertainment/pop-culture, is how I view the world through a realist lens of "well, it is what it is, shrug and a sigh of disappointment"

It’s a blessing , America is by no means perfect , but we’re one of the most free nations on earth , we also don’t have to worry about war as much as other countries or illnesses that have been wiped out by medicine or vaccines here , being an American is a blessing.

Usually means you’re kind of obnoxious, usually white, and not liked based entirely on the basis of your nationality in foreign countries. If you’re a black American, you usually encounter much worse racism when traveling.
