I was in charge of a government grant project, cost $1billion US, to finally determine, why did the chicken cross the road? Congress found this important appropriation in the 1990s and ordered the study for military and and civilian purposes. After 3 years, our top scientists drew conclusions summarized here but in detail in our 651 page report.

* The chickens brain is wired for survival and likely, although not guarantted, identified a sutiable item of food on the other side of the 'road'.

* Chicken not realizing the difference between a road and turf, fired it's various neurons and synapse events occurred resulting in the chicken running towards said, assumed object. Chickens don't do a lot of thinking, but they are intelligent and can identify and remember objects. It is unlikely they know that a road is dangerous, but they might... additional funding required.

* Chicken summarily made quick effort to grab and eat inset or other identified food item by pecking motion. We do not know why they peck vs grab (like their dinosaur cousins)... additional funding and research required. Such Chicken was done in a hurry so that other separate chicken entities could not compete and garner such protein sources, thus beating out other chickens and increasing chances of survival... thus Chicken ran across the road... focusing on object, not that it thought about crossing a road.

* Chicken's overall intended purpose is to produce offspring and sustenence of proper materials such as calcium and protein is required to ensure healthy offspring. Somehow chicken knows this... not aprt of research project, additional funding required.
