Why are people so consumed in money and material things?

Like does it really make you that happy to have a giant piece of coal on your hand. Cause that what diamonds are made from. Coal. Happy about your Chanel purse and perfume, happy about the expensive restaurants you go to like why is that happiness to people.

Once people attain enough wealth to be in the upper class, status becomes much more valuable as they must “keep up with the joneses” or they run the risk of being shunned. It’s not a problem for the middle class to not own fashion purses and to eat take out.. but the upper class must know they are being seen always and stay in the club.

Well, you always need some money, but I agree, it's not a good thing to be always consumed in material things.

Human mind is not a material thing, but I guess people teach their children that material things are very important.

Because parents never taught their children to be happy with what they have, instead they kept buying stuff whenever their kid would throw a tantum. So when people feel down, they shop, cause that is what they have learned to make them happy again.

It does make me happy when i spend money
