I do care that President George Washington made it clear of the terms of the presidency when he resigned. It would be a limit of two terms in office, a President is not a king & is bound by the Oath of Office he takes in the US Constitution & must preserve US Constitution or suffer punishment from said Constitution. It would be unconstitutional since George Washington is a Founding Father, which the Founding Fathers penned The Constitution of The United States of America.

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt went against tradition, so after his Presidency had concluded both sides of the political aisle pushed a new amendment to make it abundantly clear that a President is limited to two terms and can’t have more than that, cementing President George Washington’s actions in stone. Plain & simple, it would go against The Founder’s wishes and The Constitution.

It was only tradition. If Obama had run for a third term, do you think he'd have lost? How about Clinton, would he have got 500 more votes in Florida than Gore?

Now, Clinton should probably have been convicted after his ridiculous impeachment and let Gore be president for a year or two; he'd have got those essential 500 votes in that case too.

FDR was POPULAR! He fought against the rich and powerful and he won. Nixon wouldn't have won another term, nor would Reagan (for health reasons), nor would GW, but Clinton and Obama would have.

@goaded I was only saying that George Washington’s term limit started as tradition though was never put on the books legally since no one challenged it… Until FDR which invoked it into permanent stature via an Amendment to The US Constitution therefore this shouldn’t change.
I believe President Obama could easily beat President Trump in an election (even VP JD Vance). Clinton could do well too. The fact is that Two Term Limit has always been around whether tradition or legality so it should stay as such.

I disagree. Germany had Angela Merkel for 15 years. They were mostly good. The UK had Thatcher for 21 years, but she was mostly bad. The point is that they were repeatedly democratically voted in. Term limits stop popular presidents from achieving their goals.
